Back in 1990 I bought a Vette off the showroom floor in Virginia - I live near Dallas - by the time I got home I had 5,700 miles on the car 90% of which was driven in the rain.
Now, six Corvettes later I likely have 80,000 miles in the rain in my cars (600K+ miles in Corvettes).... as someone pointed out - they're mass produced cars....drive 'em....
I split the DD duties between a 28-year-old Ferrari and the C7... and, yes, the F-car has seen rain many times.... in fact, the day I picked it up in Greensboro to drive to Dallas it rained hippos and elephants, forget about cats and dogs....
Drive 'em.....

My wife use to say, " I wish you would rub on me as often as you rub your corvette ".. Very sad, so I have since made a change in rub downs.. Drive it..
Maybe I'll drive down there to Yukon and look you up and buy you a beer. That would be a fun trip via route 66. Rain or shine!
Come on down; Route 66 in Oklahoma is always a fun drive. The wife and I do it regularly. Here are a few pics in my album. I'll have to add a few more this year...
My 2014 is a daily driver and has been in some real downpours in the two years I have had it. Still looks like new when it's washed.I bought it to drive it.
I finally had to come to the realization that I am suffering from this in regard to my car. My wife finally informed me. "Why don't you just go out and drive that damn thing. All you do is worry if it is going to rain, get dirty, this, that and the other! You love that car. Enjoy driving it. So what if you have to go out and wash it once a week. Have fun!"
I was taken aback. But she is right you know. She went on to say that is why there are wash buckets and windshield wipers. For crying out loud you're going to be dead within 25 years, and you'll never see a tombstone stating "I wish I hadn't driven my Corvette so much!"
She was right you know. Starting tomorrow I am no longer going to check the radar map for rain, the extended weather forecast, go get my carduster, my detailer, my microfibers, my this, my that..I'm just going to go outside into the garage, open the door to the car, step on the brake, push the start button, and listen to that cool exhaust turn on and go for a ride! Anyone care to join me?
Drive it! This is me getting a haircut a few weeks ago! Car didn't melt!
Got mine on March 3 of this past year and it was delivered in the rain. Drove it home and have not had a day that I did not drive it, well almost. Spent a few days in the hospital fighting cancer, but with that now behind me, driving the car is therapy.
Got 17,000 miles on it now, and although I love how good it looks clean, I love to drive it. It is easy to wash, looks good again and can't wait to get it dirty again.
Put it prospective guys, you can't enjoy it if your not going to drive it. You can't wait until tomorrow because tomorrow may never come.
Enjoy your car, enjoy your life, just ENJOY!

Soon, it will be the anniversary of the "Spring Hill 16"! :-)
I used to be the same way but "I'm better now". Even my wife agrees. I still avoid taking them out in the rain if I have a choice, but a lot of my Vette driving is to car events/races and if they experience rain on the way so be it. I swear my '97 had a majority of its' mileage accrued with the wipers on! That car went to B Gold, Hot Rod Power Tour, Road America, 50th Anniversary at the museum, etc. so you're not going to guarantee dry roads when out for an extended period. They all are stored for the Winter, however. It's 14 below here today and that plus our annual snow/salt is not a good fit for them. That's what our AWD Caddy SRX/ATS drivers are for...
Have to admit, if it's raining and the wife is not using her SUV, I take it! However the Vette is my DD so as long as it's not a torrential downpour I take the Vette when she may need to use her car.
I took the Vette on one rainy day the 16 miles into town and it started to rain very hard. Took the back roads home but still had to go thru some deep puddles, water coming up on the sides and the wipers at top speed the whole way. Got back to our development and had to turn around on a narrow road because of a very deep water section and fortunately was able to take alternate roads where the puddles were "navigable!"
I'll still check the weather and if a heavy downpour is likely, take the wife where she needs to go in her SUV and do what I need and pick her up!!
For long trips we always take the SUV, prefer it on Interstates where I sit high and can handle truck tire treads in the road!
You are more sensible than I was. I was really bad! I was so bad that I had a computer sitting by me that constantly updated the dopler and hourly forecasts so maybe I could get a ride in between showers. I also accessed webcams that showed the road conditions, as in dry or wet pavement. I had it really bad!

Very nice ride. I wish I didn't have to use that front pate in Oregon. I'll promise you this though, when we take that trip I'll PM you and we can meet up.

Never understood why people buy cars and make them garage queens. I would understand if it was a collectible but the c7 is a mass production car...drive it like you stole it.

Joe, I hear the same thing from my wife. Luckily, your didn't say, "You love that damn Corvette more than me." Then you'd have a whole different problem on your hands. DON'T let it get to that point !!!!
I remedied this problem by taking my wife with me, but GOING SOMEWHERE SHE WANTS TO GO! For example, my wife loves to go to the City Market here in Kansas City. So we take a little trip downtown on Sundays!
It really is a simple fix which accomplishes more than one thing.

Mine was out in the rain today. Not the first time it's been driven in the rain and it won't be the last. I'll clean I up when this cold snap passes.
This, my friends, is a VERY smart man! People, this car is meant to be driven. Get out and drive your C7's. Part of the fun is cleaning it back up after a good day of driving it! You'll get a HUGE sense of accomplishment by making it shine again.

I've seen the booth in Bowling Green - Relatively clean water deluge on the car. Not even close to the same as driving in rain - we also spray water on our cars when we wash them. If you take care of the little things all along the way you'll be amazed how clean the underside of the car, all the suspension, etc. is after 5, 10, 20+ years. You CAN tell the difference over time (and it doesn't really take that much time). Some choose to "use" - others choose to "cherish". Baffles me why this matters to anyone else.
I prefer not to drive in rain. It's not the water it's the road grime and other crap that gets all over suspension, undercarriage and engine compartment. Car stays cleaner in a heavy downpour vs light rain.
it's interesting to see how ocd comes into play when some posters try to control what others say or choose as a thread subject and what it reveals about our personalities.

And I must say that engine compartment stays might clean even in dirty wet driving conditions. I know. I checked mine this morning after driving in a pouring rain last night. (in comparison to other cars I have owned)
