I drove mine home from the museum in rain the just about the whole way - 2100 miles. It got rained on, I got two chips in the front and a small ding on one of the headlights. We got stuck behind trucks slinging mud and rocks on us, but it was an awesome road trip. Some of you guys would've had a coronary I guess.
The car did great, and it looks great. I didn't buy it to save it for the next owner. I say get out there and drive it, it's a hell of a lot more fun to drive than it is to wax.
I finally had to come to the realization that I am suffering from this in regard to my car. My wife finally informed me. "Why don't you just go out and drive that damn thing. All you do is worry if it is going to rain, get dirty, this, that and the other! You love that car. Enjoy driving it. So what if you have to go out and wash it once a week. Have fun!"
I was taken aback. But she is right you know. She went on to say that is why there are wash buckets and windshield wipers. For crying out loud you're going to be dead within 25 years, and you'll never see a tombstone stating "I wish I hadn't driven my Corvette so much!"
She was right you know. Starting tomorrow I am no longer going to check the radar map for rain, the extended weather forecast, go get my carduster, my detailer, my microfibers, my this, my that..I'm just going to go outside into the garage, open the door to the car, step on the brake, push the start button, and listen to that cool exhaust turn on and go for a ride! Anyone care to join me?
Never understood why people buy cars and make them garage queens. I would understand if it was a collectible but the c7 is a mass production car...drive it like you stole it.
Smart Wife with good advice. It is amazing all the post you read about owners buying the latest voodu magic coatings, sealants, waxes, towels and the list goes on. Nothing magic about the paint on a Corvette, drive it and enjoy it.
When you feel like it wash it and dry it and guess what it will look good.
The best thing is you will be getting real value out of your Corvette by driving it versus obsessing over the non issues.
Amen! I just got back from a drive at my wife's suggestion. Loved every bit of it, and it rained like hell. I wouldn't have done that if it wasn't for her. I'm glad she straightened me out on this "can't get the car dirty" business.
I don't use my car as a daily driver but that is because I work from home! After taking a bath on a low mileage C5 on trade (after trying in vain to sell it) I decided that I was going to DRIVE this car. 4600 miles so far in 8 months, which is a lot for me!! In FL it is nearly impossible to plan to go anywhere without rain, it pretty much rains on me every time I drive it but you know, that is ok, it has not melted and I know how to wash it...I've had enough practice! That said, I'm still trying to sell a 2012 Camaro with LOW miles but I'm not using that because of the Vette!
I have a 2016 Laguna Blue ZO6 on order and plan to drive it as much as I can. My current car is a C6 ZO6 and we did the Museum Delivery in May of 2008. We drove it from Bowling Green to Arizona during tornado season....When we arrived in Phoenix the car was filthy and the odometer showed 2000 miles, but we sure had some great memories and stories to tell. A little soap and water made it good as new....PS Clay Bar, polish and wax helped too.

Oh boy, I managed to read another "rain thread". To each his own I say.
I sometimes get caught out in the rain, it just happens, oh well.
If there is a prediction of thunderstorms however, i leave it parked. Around these parts we often get hail in the storms. I know, I know it's not steel or metal but I prefer not to take a chance on paint or glass damage.
Just my take on it and I do enjoy detailing the car.
