2015,C7 A8 Aug 2014 build 16,000 miles.

* since day 1 ,hard 1-2 shift first drive of the day

* with light acceleration all shifts very smooth. Moderate acceleration, shifts quick as expected but sometimes also very hard with a jolt felt.
Until last week I was putting up with it rather than take it in and have a tech put tools to the car. Called the SM and told him my problems and he said it sounded like TC and they had done a few.
O.K, bite the bullet and take it in. On day 2 I was advised I needed a torque converter.
Picked up the car yesterday and shifts are 100% improved. Drove it this morning and for the first time since new the first 1-2 shift was butter smooth.

So, to your question, I asked the SM what was done. They first uploaded software to improve the harsh 1-2 shift and that did not work. GM then authorized a REVISED TORQUE CONVERTER that now comes from a supplier in Detroit. The 1-2 harsh shift he explained was due to fluid leak back out of the TC which with the revised TC and some new software stops the leakback. In addition, the pan was removed, flushed cooler two times, filled with new fluid, and relearned shift adapts. Trans flush code 390FE25. Also on day 2 when the car was driven to test the first software upload the SM reported there was vehicle shudder with TCC lock up, which I had not noticed.
Until I saw your question I was going to hold off reporting on the repairs as I would have liked to see another week of smooth 1-2 upshifts before reporting so if it goes "South" I'll come back to this thread.

I hope this is the info you wanted and if anything else please always feel free to PM me.

Doug.

Doug, I had the same fix with a new torque converter and the same procedures was done to mine. I also had the transmission filter replaced. I did not see if yours was replaced?

Yes, filter was also replaced. They also had to re & re the transmission to do the TC work. This level of tear down was what had me worried about taking the car in for repairs and the lesser of two evils was to just live with the under performing drive train.I guess after 16,000 miles of driving over 15 months I came to grips with the fact the car was broken and not operating to its design standard. That is what warranty is for, so I think the most important element for other vette owners is to make sure they get it to a shop they trust and that has experience doing this kind of work. To re & re a tranny to replace a defective TC should not scare a competent mechanic. I hope others who are having problems can find the right repair facility to get a fantastic car performing to the very high standard it was designed to operate at. Mine was NOT and now it IS !

I agree with finding a shop that has already replaced some of the torque converters "practice makes perfect" and WILL know how to properly diagnose your transmission problem. As I have stated in previous posts, the first dealer I took my car to said nothing was wrong with my transmission and I had informed them prior to the test drive that the A8's were having torque converter failures.

I had my A8 replaced at 5k due to whining at low rpm hwy speeds car now has 8k miles on it.
After reading the above I would say my TC needs replaced as well. I've had those same issues since day 1 with both transmissions. Also the car surges at low speeds while I'm braking it lurches forward.

Sounds like for sure you do have an issue that will be covered by warranty. These transmissions were not designed to have quirks and anyone who does have quirks , like needing to "warm it up before it smooths out etc" has some defect(s) in the drive train.
As Red-C6 of Jax has also pointed out it is most important to get it to a shop that has done C7 drivetrain work, even if it means a bit of a drive. Your warranty covers the courtesy/rental car.

I have a 2017 Z07 A8 and my transmission needs a complete replacement, it won't move in any gear. The transmission is completely disengaged and it just revs in D and R without moving. Dealership is ordering parts and going ahead with the replacement. Any body else have this problem?
