In other words, you are not bound by the posted speed limit when passing obviously. But technically you are way over the posted speed limit when passing. I passed a car the other day that was going 50 in a 55 posted speed limit zone. I punched it to get around and by the time I let up on the gas I was doing 90. I slowed down to 60 and remained at that speed. But, here I was going 35 over at the passing speed. I hope that is legal.
If I have to pass a car doing 55, a safe passing speed about 90.

I've had my 240hp 1995 M3 to an indicated 160mph on I10 (rpm, gears, and tire ratio all say the math is pretty close) and I've had my C7 to 160 without breaking a sweat on a deserted 2 lane road and it was still pulling hard. I'm guessing the advertised top speed of 187ish is easily attainable.

110mph on two occasions, as C7 owners know, that doesn't take very long from 60 or 70. One time was for my pleasure, one time for the dealer C7 specialist to experience exhaust gas in the cabin caused by a leaking hatchback gasket.

I have no desire for a drive cuffed in the back seat of a TX Highway Patrol car enroute to a night in the Greybar Hotel. Don

As I would expect any Officer of the Law who had just pulled you over for said offense would say "Not my problem, don't pass".

Or don't get caught.

Life is so harsh

Well at Spring Mountain I was hitting 110~115 on the straight. Car was very stable at speed and remarkable how well it cornered and freaked.

In a Dream about a year later 150 on I-40 headed out of Knoxville. It was very impromptu.

I was turning on to the on ramp for the interstate. The on ramp is two lanes that merge to one before it merges onto the 3 lane interstate. As I accelerated up the black coupe next to me kept accelerating, hit 90 before I got ahead of him to merge on the on ramp. Was thinking to my self was an azz that would was not letting me merger on the on ramp.

Out on the interstate, I was in the middle lane. He pulled up on my left, I was at 70, 5 over the limit. He pulls a head a bit, I see its a GA tagged Austin Martin DB9. He slows down and indicates he wants to run. We do a rolling start from 40 mph. I stayed ahead of him until 150 when I backed out.

When I woke up from the dream I checked out the specs on the WWW and found out that the DB9 is about twice the cost of my car, and slower 0-60 and 1/4 mile and top end.

I guess it was his nightmare, but my dream was good

I found out in Oregon you can only pass in designated passing lanes on two lane highways, and you can't exceed the posted speed limit. Oops! I guess I have been lucky not to have been cited.

135 in the Corvette, my all time high was 165 on a Honda Blackbird.
