Is it my imagination or have a lot of the regulars left this forum? If so I wonder why.

Chas, it's "'curious" that you start a thread such as this and make NO MENTION of specific people you're referring to.

Zymurgy and I have worked VERY hard to make the C7 Section more of a positive place to hang out. There was a lot of negativity here, but we're working on making this section a better place to be. A lot of the negative people that used to be here are gone and I say, "good riddance".

My mother taught me a long time ago, it's not what you say, it's the way you say it. Personally, it gets VERY tiring to read all the negativity around here. Some people have nothing else better to do than to bitch and moan.....it makes for poor reading and is boring as hell.

This is just a personal perspective. But I would guess people have moved away for a couple of reasons:

1. There have been a lot of negative posts lately. People belittling someone's ideas or perspectives.

2. This has sort of become the "problem forum"; a place where people write in to complain about perceived issues with their car.

This used to be a place where people posted new mods they had completed; and then described how they had completed the mod, and where the items could be obtained.

Now there is much less of that and much more of "my car is making this funny noise"..."I think GM has a problem and they will not own up to it"....I don't like my paint job"....Like people forgot what their warranty was for; and how to address an issue with a business.

But now I am on a "soapbox" ....so time to stop.....

It is easy to climb on the soapbox. Been there, done that. I even think I posted my thoughts on the underside of the hood paint. I've been on BMW forums before where sniping was daily and hostile. Haven't seen much here that comes even close to comparable. (I am guessing a different crowd.)

I have to say I absolutely love this car. Putting everything in perspective this is one incredible automobile and have benefited from more than a few "how to's" here.

That being said if people are looking for answers I guess they are in the right place but if they are looking to rally the troops against GM because of a problem that they are encountering perhaps another venue?

Maybe it's posts such as this one that turns people off.

People post about problems to see if there are others who had the problem and how to fix it.

There were probably very few problems the first few months the C7s were out. Took time for them to appear.

Depends upon who you are referring to. Some of us who have been here since day 1 in 1999 (or close to it) are still around. I post less than I used to due to work and due to the increase in BS that plagues every forum. I can think of 100 things I'd rather do than argue with some internet bozo. Overall, this site is useful but the dialogue has declined since 1999.

When I was on the C5 forum it did seem there were more solutions to common problems, but it may be that people just do not have enough experience with the C7's yet for common problems to have come up.
I prefer the technical discussions and problem solving, and there does seem to be a lot of threads just for "opinions".

I find this forum a wealth of knowledge. Yes, there are the NAYSAYERS and GRIPERS but overall a great bunch of people who enjoy their Corvettes and share what they have learned about them....

This is a great forum! For a great car!
Yes a lot of folks come here and have issues with the car
And some here have issues with GM and their car
It is the most high tech Vette ever....many of the owners are not so tech savy so a bit put off with issues they can't do any thing about....
I used to build computers and some apps I don't understand but
That does not dampen my love of this car.
Our mods do ahell of a job stoping as much of the nay Sayers as they can with out infringing on speech ... Mod is a thankless job so here and now I sat to ours
Well don and thank you for your effort on our behalf!
Here here!!!!

I think this is a great forum! I haven't seen any real drop off of regulars. Posting goes in cycles.

I've been on lots of others that have had people who always play devils advocate and mis-quote others repeatedly. I have even had a sponsor/vendor question my posts about real world tuning successes, because they make their money doing only dyno tunes. Didn't take me long to leave!

Unfortunately there are always posters who aren't ever happy. Honestly, I think they feel best when they are miserable. We have to remember not to give them a soapbox and perhaps they will quit with the negatives.

Overall, people here are positive, civil and are willing to help each other.

I LOVE this place!!!!

I've been on Internet forums since they were invented by Al Gore.

I've learned that Internet forum posts are like TV channels. If you don't like a particular one - hit "guide" and find one that you like.

I've also been on forums where a few **** on all. Simply flag the post and the mods usually do a good job polishing turds. Here better than most.

I'm here because we own a few first generation (C1's) and typically own the latest generation (now a C7). I enjoy the insights here, but sometimes get a laugh at the chrome vs black wheels type of threads.

I was here from the beginning...proudly played a part in the structure of the main sections and other concepts; have written several DIY methods for the forum over the last 15 years. Like anything in life, there are growing pains and all sorts of ups and downs...this forum is not exempt.

Addressing the OP's query I too have noticed certain names are gone...it's not the first time and won't be the last. I have no problem naming a couple: dufuss or something like that; bluecow (not sure if that is right either, but the name was in just about every thread 2 years ago)...feel free to add to the list and maybe tell us a story that goes with the name for what it's worth.

More important, the reasons there is not an equivalent arrray of 'how-to's, fixes, and other modding input compared to the C5 section is because 1) the C7 is relatively trouble free (at this point in time) and, 2)from the factory, previous modding ideas, are now included as standard or as options, that were until now limited to the aftermarket...

cases in point;

HID lighting,
Built in improved exhaust note with NPP,
No need for coilovers with mag ride and the ride control choices,
Painted calipers (we started that on the C5 in 1998 with Sunrise Red Rustoleum paint),
Big brake kits right from the factory,
Decent wheel designs,
Upsized wheel diameters to equal aftermarket offerings,
Painted lower rear fascia (originally a mod on the C5),
Sideskirts, splitters, spoilers...and many more.

(As far as the C6 goes, many thought of it as the C5.5....kind of 'more of the same' in many ways.)

Bottom line: It just illustrates that car makers are now paying attention to what enthusiasts have embraced for quite some time.

Someone was just appointed to the role of moderator and those who know him kept saying how he was always positive. I think this is the way I want to be. If I have a problem I trust those with the knowledge to bail me out. I have been on this forum daily since I bought my C7 after owning a 2001 C5 Z06. I am learning from most of you and trying to help those where I can. We can't control those that are taking a break but we can control what they see when they return...... Happy Easter!

You've been on here for less than two years. I've been on here for 11, and I'd say there are normal attendance ebbs and flows for all kinds of reasons. I don't think people have "left" the forum. People trade up or out of their Vettes, seasons change, jobs get busier, you name it.

The moderators do a great job and I think generally, everyone is pretty positive. Yes, some people can be snarky, others can be sarcastic (me included) and others might have a bad day, but I think it's all good.

From the perspective of a newcomer who can't really comment on whether any "regulars" have left, I can say that the tone of some - and for sure it is a very few - frequent posters is such that it discourages people from taking part in a lot of the discussions.

Probably the most prevalent implication when someone asks for help or advice is how foolish that guy is for not finding it in the owners manual. Myself, I do not care for condescension so I simply use Google for whatever question I have. It often leads me to an answer on this forum but many times leads me to other forums. Maybe the other forums is where the people you are missing have gone.
