That's been done too. And stock not after market. Remember the 70's era Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Gotta admit, I liked it!

And just a touch of chrome! haha! And before someone else says it, NO that's not why they went under!

Nice collection of cars. Thanks for posting the pictures because I think they will perfectly illustrate my preference for shiny or at least light 'silvery' colored wheels.

Look at the five autos in this photo and describe the wheels on each.

For me it would be difficult to describe the first two if I didn't already know what they looked like. Someone earlier said that chrome screams, "Hey, look at me". IMHO the whole car screams, "Hey, look at me"! And I mean that in a good sense.

And, in all fairness, maybe some want the wheels to blend in. Kind of a stealth look.

In the interest of full disclosure, my first choice of exterior color was NOT black for that exact reason. My first choices were either DSOM or CRM. I wanted some color because I thought it would show the design lines of the C7 better. But, I picked black in the end. So I'm not totally unsympathetic with folks that prefer black wheels.

But like Randy G. so aptly put it, "The chrome gives amazing contrast".

Vive la différence!

The more I look...

...if I had it to do all over again, I think I would get those wheels. I still might...

I think the C7 is meant to go perfect with black wheels. All the different black accent on the car makes the black rims match perfect. Chrome just looks out of place on the C7 Or really on any new car today. I gues I'm a chrome hater, my truck doesn't have any chrome on it either.

Isn't contrast normally when you have opposing colors? If everything is the same color that'd actually be considered to have no contrast.

I guess some views on black wheels are a carryover from the times when cars had spare tires, and they'd generally be all black- the newer generation don't associate black rims with flat tires anymore.

I like to blend in with a low profile (to the extent possible with a C7 anyway), so the plain silver works for me.

Historically I was never a fan of black wheels. Especially when they became popular on 911's (where I live) 5 or so years ago.

But it's grown on me and I opted in for black with my purchase.

Black Wheel Master Race Crew checking in.

To each there own. I think chrome looks gaudy and old man'ish. I personally think it varies by each car more so than a general color choice. I really like gunmetal wheels and combo color wheels on some vehicles as well.

Yes, the red and the black of the car is what the contrast is. The car has bunch of black parts on the red paint.

Listen, Like i said i totally understand where you are coming from. I am in the younger generation (born in the 1990s). I can tell you most of my friends, and most of the younger guys at meets dont like chrome rims. The same way a lot of older guys dont like black rims, because of reasons like you said.

Just walk into any European, exotic, or Japanese car dealership. I bet 95% of the cars on the lot or in the showroom are some type of sliver, followed by black rims.

Then walk into Cadillac, Lincoln, or buick dealership where the average buyer is a 59 year old american.(that is the actual number)

The whole chrome thing is for "older" american men. Chrome was never a thing in Europe, so they dont even offer chrome on European cars (for the most part). Just run a search of new Lamborghinis for sale. half will be black rims, half will be sliver. Chrome wont even be a option.

At the end of the day who cares what people think, buy what you like. But dont come on here saying black looks bad, or i am going to tell you to go back to the 1960s with comments like that.

You are not alone. We like what we like, and therefore we have choices. Those that say I'm old, and I'm stupid because I like chrome can kiss me where the sun don't shine. Don't ask brother, get what you like.

These are the reproduction Z06 wheels (18/19 combo) that came on the market the first of the year. Bought them from a forum vendor at a very reasonable price.

Perfect example of how chrome makes the exterior and the whole lines of the car pop. Black does nothing. Well done Rebel Yell.

As an older guy (67) I'm partial to chrome, but I have to say that black rims offset painted calipers very nicely where chrome rims tend to hide them a bit. If you're into wheels at all the best avenue is to NOT buy any fancy rims from GM for extra, but just accept the no-cost painted. THEN you can safely buy any after-market wheel you want, which leaves you a lot more versatility--including some of the newer colored rims.

Nothing wrong with Black but a lot depends on paint color and other accents on the car when deciding which color/finish wheels look best.
The wrong combination can make the wheels look separate from the car instead of completing the car.
Here's the phases I went through and finally settled on the gray wheels.

My C6 had black rims as well.
Now my 68 Pro Street Camaro has polished aluminum rims and would not look right with black rims and either would my turbo Buick.
My supercharged 600HP marauder looks best with polished rims. Different cars should have different rims but black wheels on a C7 in my opinion look great.

My IPad won't let me post more them one picture per post...sorry.
Hey Mike, been a while. Hope all is good, congrats on the C7. Did not know you picked one up. All the other Hot Rods look great as usual.

A perfect example of when chrome/silver works better in an overall look. IMHO of course.

But I've got to say NateDieselF4i, both those vehicles look great in that driveway!

One has to wonder. The wheels that were stolen off this Z06...were they chrome or were they black?

How many people have you heard of in their 50's or 60's that would steal wheels and tires verses people in the 20's or 30's? My guess is they were the black painted wheels.

I personally like both. Even the silver painted look good on silver. Nice car.
