current technology used by GM in the Corvette does not allow for Nav, USB, satellite radio and CD player together. It's possible in the next couple of years the system may be upgraded to allow a CD player option. I'm sure the space behind the screen was actually designed and intended for a CD changer. I don't miss it---never or hardly ever used it in other vehicles anyway.
You can get a CD player and plug it into the Aux input currently. What do you mean that current tech used by GM in the vette does not allow it?!?

the system used either does not have capacity or simply will not allow for a CD player to be added to the entertainment/info module. You'd have to ask someone with more IT knowledge than me, but don't you think with the space behind the screen that was obviously designed and intended for a CD player, GM would offer a $200 or $300 option for a $30(at most) CD player? What about a easy dealer installed add-on? What about all these after market accessory companies constantly trumping their wares around here? The simple reason that none are avail, is that the current system used in the C7 will not accept a CD player.
Well, I disagree, because basically just about any 2016 car has a CD player either std or avail as a dealer option. You would have to look hard to find more than a couple that don't. Another thing, and we can probably agree on --I've never known Chev/GM to be on the cutting edge of technology, so why would they be the first to discontinue this arguably but still seemingly somewhat popular item in this car? Again, this doesn't directly affect me, I very rarely play CD's anyway.

Not remotely true. You obviously haven't looked at many new cars recently.

I've been in the IT business since the 80's. It's not about IT nor tech, it's about moving forward. If you insist on wanting a CD player then simply plug it into the Aux input. It'll work like a charm. The rest of us have long since moved forward...

I don't know what the GM engineers think and I generally refrain from putting my speculations in another person's mind.

Hey why aren't you asking for a casette player or even a phonograph. Much better fidelity they say...

I'm not really complaining about not having a CD player as much as being sold that "everybody's going to this", when actually a CD player was planned for the C7, then later a cheaper or lesser system(maybe better--who knows) was used for the final product.

How do you know a CD player was planned for the C7? Do you work for GM or have secret insider knowledge?

Excuse me, but do you have evidence that a CD player was planned for, or are you just guessing? I'm just asking.
And even if they did, it still makes sense to go with what the future is. I'm sure they weren't planning for cassette decks nor phonographs so you're point really makes little sense... that is unless you're living in the past which you obviously are. It's not like a 128 Gig thumb drive is expensive nor is it hard to rip CDs nor is it difficult to transfer them to the thumb drive (I really doubt you always have your full CD collection in your car) so what exactly is your excuse? Worst fidelity? Aside from the fact that as an older dude (I'm guessing here) chances are you can't hear the fidelity you claim you're missing. So what is it really? Don't like tech? Or can't figure out how to rip CDs? Either way your argument is unpersuasive.
I got rid of all my CDs... geeze, let's see... way back in around the early 2000's. Don't have any physical photos anymore either. It's clear to all but holdouts where the future lies and using the excuse of "well I'm old" is just that - an excuse! I'm sure they used to argue about the disappearance of actual horses and buggy whips back in the day, but forward thinking people could not wait for them to go away.

If you want to use the DAC from an el cheapo portable CD player you'll negate all the advantages of using the CD...

Musicians do.
The problem is most portable devices (like this car) do not support lossless audio formats. I personally use FLAC over MP3 (there's also ALAC). I'm an audio junkie (higher end headphones, speakers, and amps for the house) but I've never had the urge to go nuts with a car's sound system. Too much background noise (environment, other cars, that sweet exhaust sound etc.) to truly appreciate "high quality audio." Do high quality MP3s sound bad in a car? Not at all. Properly put together even at home they're not bad. In the end, I still prefer lossless audio if I'm listening from a digital source at home.

I have the same question of you that Steve_R has below.....

I'm beginning to suspect you are trolling here, but even if you are serious, I didn't use the CD player in either of my C6s (had PAL installed in my '09 and GM had an audio link in the center console of my '13 GS). My wife's '09 Avalanche has a CD player, but between the auxiliary link and the XM radio, she hardly uses it and in my Ford truck, I have a Kenwood that replaced the old radio where I can plug in my iPhone and listen to my music that way (or not plug it in, it has Bluetooth like my C7).
Most people have moved on from the CD player. My CD players are downstairs in my basement. I have an extensive collection, but transferred all to my computer years ago. People who still listen to or play CDs are quickly becoming a minority if they are not already there.
GM would know the trends far better than us, so I find your comment above specious at best.

Then get a gigantic one and install it in the back area. Some people have made way more investment in upgraded sound systems and even posted some threads there.
For the record I doubt that it would make much of a difference at all

Yeah but we're not talking about your house here - we're talking about a CD player in a vette...
I was bothered by it initially, but loading thousands of songs on a memory card or usb drive is so much more convenient to have a rolling jukebox everywhere you go...

the area behind the screen is designed for a CD player, many vehicles share this feature. My daughter's Honda has a 3 or 5 disc changer, exact same thing, behind the nav screen. It's perfectly sized and obvious that's what it was intended for.
If you believe the Bloomberg website. 76 percent of cars sold in 2015 had CD players. They estimate that it will drop below 50% in 2021.
I don't doubt that stat a bit and completely agree it's aging technology, but wonder how many of the 24% sold last year without CD players were fleet--police, fire, taxi or other commercial vehicles? Also not sure if work pick-up trucks are included in the 24%(along with all C7's of course) ---but there is one other thing: You can't walk into a Wal-Mart, Target, or record store(still a few around) and buy a USB stick of your favorite music for yourself or as a gift for someone. Wonder why no music companies do not offer pre-recorded memory sticks? Only two possible reasons--very limited demand or questionable sound quality/product durability. But hey---everybody prefers a gift that's "homemade", right?
