the area behind the screen is designed for a CD player, many vehicles share this feature. My daughter's Honda has a 3 or 5 disc changer, exact same thing, behind the nav screen. It's perfectly sized and obvious that's what it was intended for.
That's not proof of anything. It's pure speculation on your part. I like the storage compartment so I take its presence of proof GM designed it that way.

I can guess and speculate too.
very true, maybe they did. BTW---I've still never seen mentioned which car(s) besides the C7 that CD players are unavailable.

Tesla, the new Honda Civic are two that come to mind. And we're taking about factory options, not dealer options that go to the local Al & Ed's for installation.
Just checking with the board,i would like to know how some of you feel about gm illiminating the cd players from the corvette.
Thank you
I had a 6 disk CD changer in my old econobox bought in 2009. owned the car for over 5 years, never used it once. Always used a thumb drive. I have a single CD player in my 2014 Mustang, 2 years and have never used it.
I use a 128 gig Patriot Rage flash drive. Holds everything including audio books with room to spare for my "Emergency PC Repair" programs.
CD players have a lot of moving parts, they fail. Flash Drives have 0 moving parts. I've never had one fail (though I did have to reformat a different brand once because the files got corrupted, that's when I switched to Patriot. The one that gave me issues was a Sandisk)
Flash drives and SD cards only tend to fail because of the amount of write cycles. That's why I keep a lot of extra SD cards on hand for my Photography and video recording.

added additional ones I had or recalled and have another SD Card with those. They play in a shuffle mode as soon as I get in the car. No paying for XM, no back sides of hits etc etc!
PS: I'm only 73 so not old enough to reject new technology but did go thru poor quality AM radios, 8 Tracks, Cassettes and floppy disks and IOMEGA Drives for my computer!
You realize you just admitted to pirating your music.
Getting audio books from CD to jump drive is a challenge. Many of the audio CDs do not have a consistent naming convention from disc to disc and the jump drive player does not have preferences as to how to play the files (name sort or date created order).
Most books would fit on 2 CDs and with a 6 CD changer, I could load up 3 books to listen to. Now I have to go through a lot more steps to be able to listen to a book in the Vette. PITA
You don't have to buy your audio books on CD. you can buy them digitally. Burn them to CD or DVD, them rip them back to the computer for use in the car. The process of Burning them to DVD or CD gets rid of the DRM. Since you legally purchased them and don't give them out to others, doing this is perfectly legal. Or you can just go through and label the tracks. Takes a bit longer.

There was no CD player in my 2013 Camaro. Not sure if I could have ordered one. I think not. Since I don't have any CDs anymore I didn't bother to look.
