The problem with any factory Nav is the lack of timely updates and the price of the updates. I have a GMC Terrain that I purchased new in March 2015. Of course it didn't have the new Interstate addition in it since that didn't open until 3 months later. However, I just got a notice from GM they had finally released an update for the Terrain and were offering it at a discount. I thought it would be nice to get it but once it was loaded the new Interstate was not part of the data. That is more than a year after it was opened.

I am pretty sure bureaucracy slows the updating process but that is ridiculous they would take over a year to process the update and get it ready to sell.

Other than that the only complaint I have about the factory Corvette Nav is it doesn't display the speed limit on the screen. I have to change the DIC to display the speed limit which then limits which instruments I want to monitor.

The Waze navigation app not only displays your current speed but also the speed limit for the road your on and will highlight your speed when you exceed the limit.

It's too bad these nav threads have to degenerate into how the factory nav is crap, this one is better, I have that one, etc. That is not even close to what the op was. Most already know that stuff.

There is nothing dishonest about pointing out other options for a map update.

I did make the mistake of paying $1800 for the POS factory NAV in my C6.

I now use a Garmin(have three of them in three different cars). I made a NAV holder that fits in the cup holder, so no mounting on the windshield, dash, etc and no wires hanging down.

For under $100, I have a Garmin 52LM in my C6 that has free map/POI updates for life, and I can update it 4 times a year to get the latest.

For less money than a 1 year GM update, the OP can have a NAV that has free updates for life.

AND, there are plenty of other reasons to have Garmin. Sure the OP has already paid for his factory NAV, but that doesn't mean he has to continue to use it, especially if it cost him more money annually, than a Garmin.

^ This is why I liked my Dodge Charger. Instead of trying to come up with a navigation interface, and end up failing (like every other mfg) they just contracted Garmin to put their software in the dash. I had a Garmin in my previous vehicle, and when moving to the Charger, I knew immediately how to use the nav system without any question.

Of course it would be nice if the update were free and there were an Easter Bunny, but that's wishful thinking. Sadly, we must live in the world as it is, not how we wish it would be. So suck it up, buy the update, pay your credit card bill, and forget the price. Enjoy your Vette and your nav.
I understand the 2014 and 2015 guys are out of luck but with a 2016 and Android Auto I have free map updates and way, way better system!

I also got the email today. I did not pay too much attention to it but I thought it was $129. In any event I'm not interested in paying that much when as others have said its pretty inferior. My smart phone is way better just not as convenient.

Waze is really GREAT! Been using it now for about a year, in all three vehicles!

For the nav update,
Do you have to go to the dealer to get it install?
or do you buy the map on USB & install yourself?
buy only from dealer, or can you buy from 3rd party? Amazon?

You can order it through a dealer or the GM contractor directly. You install it yourself. It's on a USB.

Generally speaking, a map update for any car is largely not worth it, unless its been at least 4 or 5 years. Unless, as has been mentioned, you are in a neighborhood that is new. Even then if you live there, you know it already. I know when traveling gas stations etc. are updated. I just have never had a problem. Not worth the crazy amount of money they want.

Android auto with Google maps also works great and syncs through the car screen, plus you get Pandora and anything else in your phone.

I use Waze and love it - but can you tell me more about this 'NavTool' interface - I would love to have this display on my center screen. Does it also provide the audio? Thanks.
