Today, I got an email from GM with a special price of $139.99 to get my nav update. I passed on the previous one but now they lowered the price by $20 so I'm thinking of getting it.
Has anyone got any experience with these updates and do you think they are worth it?
I think they should be included while the car is under warranty but that's a discussion for another time.
Dave, I purchased one update-they work well. If you've had a lot of highway and neighborhood street updates, it might be worth the purchase-especially since it's $20 off. I purchased mine at $150, but it was a 3 year update. It takes about 50 minutes to install and it's done by VIN.
As far as getting them while you're still under warranty, forget it....it will never happen.
You've got the car. You've got the nav. Presumably you got the nav so you could use it. So why wouldn't you want the latest and most accurate directions? Isn't the whole idea of the nav to get you where you want to go quickly and easily? Isn't that what you want and what you initially paid for? If so, get the update.
Of course it would be nice if the update were free and there were an Easter Bunny, but that's wishful thinking. Sadly, we must live in the world as it is, not how we wish it would be. So suck it up, buy the update, pay your credit card bill, and forget the price. Enjoy your Vette and your nav.
The update comes on a USB stick. It's a very easy install.
If you really want to enhance your nav experience, buy the new 2016 OEM unit. Your dealer will install it for you. It's expensive, but a great improvement over the gawdawful 2014 unit.

Is there anyway to get Android Auto in an older model? I don't think I'm willing to do NavTool.
Waze and any smart phone are so much more capable, and they auto-update free many times a year. The GM or any auto manufacturer nav update pkg is not worth it at any price.
Fortunately the screen in the car does many other useful things because I never use the nav part.
I think $20 off way too much is bad, especially for a system that is inferior to smart phone nav systems.
Waze, because so many people are contributing to updates, has instant traffic data and re-routes that no car system can compete with. I've tried running my C7 system at the same time as Waze in my very heavy traffic metro area, and Waze always has traffic tie-ups that the car system doesn't have. The car nav is always at least a half-hour or more behind what's actually happening. It works both ways, sometimes the car has traffic tie-ups that have long since cleared.

Yes. Here's a link. Be sure to scroll down to where you can add Android Auto. This is a good vendor. I was very pleased with their product. Some folks installed it themselves, but I had my Chevy dealer install it for me. Works great.
You can turn the auto-zoom on or off. The street you are on always shows at the bottom of the screen. The next turn always shows at the top in its own box. Next turn distance is in tenths of a mile instead of quarter mile units. Only 2 clicks required to cancel a route. Better interface for entering an address. Faster processor. Better VR.

Keep in mind that it is almost a year old now and the new releases come out in October/November time frame, thus the reason they are discounting. It's still newer than what you have, but...
I normally don't do yearly updates. Roads seldom change much that the outdated navigation data base can't still give you reliable routing. Local attractions change frequently, stores and restaurants etc. I normally do not access this data so outdated information is not a problem.
First, the GM Nav, and all the other OEM Navs I own, suck big time. But GM is the worse. Waze is far superior to any. I have yet to be able to input a destination while in the car. Either through keyboard or voice. I have to use OnStar on the phone and have it download to the car. Then the crapulant Nav has a tendency to go way, way out of the way when it calculates the routes! So I screen Mirror Waze using Naviks unit.
But that being said, the '14 & '15 system is all laggy. But I am kind of hesitant to blow $1200 to swap it out just to fix GM saving a couple of bucks by cheaping out on the processor.
That being said, I was waiting for these suppliers to start shipping the '17 model HMI units. Perhaps they will have new maps?

No need to do that. I own a '16 also. The nav is better but I would like to know if the '14 updates already done had any noticeable changes.

The offer expires 11/30 so this may be the newest one. From the email, I don't see any way to tell a version number or something else to know for sure. I could call the dealer but they are not too sharp with this stuff.
This is V.2017, the newest one.
Went to the order site and this message was there:
This map version is part number 84198834 and replaces the GM part numbers listed below in the ‘Compatibility’ section. To verify your current map part number: Go to your vehicle 1) On the Home Screen, touch Settings; 2)Then touch Software Information (you may need to scroll down to see this option) 3) Look for the 8-digit number under “Map” information. If the 8-digit number is 84198834 you already have the latest map available. Please check back for a future update
Hope this helps.

I use Waze displayed on the center screen by the NavTool interface. No more GM upgrade fees.
