Thanks everyone. The issue is 100% cosmetic. At this time at least. Sorry I can't take any more pics as it started raining here yesterday and won't stop until this weekend. I'm really hoping that the top skinny molding is removable and can be replaced and will sit lower. Otherwise, unless it gets worse, I'm not letting any butchers near my car. It's only factory once. They replaced my CTS windshield 3 times as morons just couldn't get it right. One application was so bad that the vin number was completely blocked.

Absolutely not normal and if it were mine it would bug the hell out me. I would go back to the dealer with it.

I've seen that issue before with an early C7 car. The owner stated that in about 6 months the bubbles became worse and started to spread. The difference in his issue and yours is that his bubbles eventually formed a line in the corner of the windshield that eventually started at the top and spread to the outside edge. My advise would be to take it to a trustworthy dealership and have them replace the windshield because that is 100% a manufacturing defect.

For the record it could have formed during the transportation process and hence passed Bowling Green QC, but it shouldn't have passed PDI.

The top molding (seal) is NOT removable it is "bonded" to the windshield. You have to replace the entire windshield.

That said, I just had my cracked windshield replaced and found out from the installer that 3 out of 5 windshields he has received from GM had those "bubbles" in the top seal, some have more bubbles, some none at all. On the last C7 that had a cracked windshield he had to send back 3 windshields before he got an acceptable one.

That said, the bubbles will not expanded or result in a leak, its cosmetic.

Thanks for answering the molding question and that's a hell of a ratio. sounds like a procedural problem at GM, not a fluke

For clarification: the bubbles on the car I spoke about did expand, meaning the line grew from the top molding to the side forming a very small triangle in the corner of the windshield. But I do agree that they are cosmetic in nature; the aforementioned car's windshield did not leak any water. It was merely a nuance to the owner.

ls3zob:

I have the exact same issue with my windshield. I have minute bubbles just along and under the rubber moulding of the windshield. The bubbles are not all the way across the rubber moulding.

It does appear to me that the adhesive used apparently had some air get into the resin or adhesive when installing the glass.

I believe the installation of the glass is mechanical and installed with robotic arms with only one person assisting in the process.

I consider this as cosmetic.

The images I posted make the situation look worse than it is. The images are extreme closeups. My situation is that the bubbles are visible only under close inspection and direct light (like sunlight). I would imagine that if other C7 owners look closely at their windshields they might view the same.

I will watch the windshield closely to see if the bubbles expand beyond what is shown. I noticed this last year when I polished the glass with Griots Garage Fine Glass Polish. I do not believe the windshield glass is delaminating, but perhaps a glass expert who might own a C7 can advise us.

I will not be taking the C7 to a dealer unless the problem gets worse.

I am open to any advice, or comments. If making a comment I am looking for constructive advice and comments please.

Default Wow!

I was about to post the same problem with my '14 (built Feb 2014). Noticed it about two weeks ago and was concerned it would get worse.
If you go to the dealer let us know what happens.
I too am concerned about them taking the windshield out, but if it got a rock damage, I'd have to get it replaced anyway..

I too consider this as a cosmetic issue.

If the car is new you may want to have the dealer document the problem in their GM system. This way if you decide to get it fix later there will be an official record Of the problem.

I bet it's more common that one might think. I never noticed mine until I read this thread. It kinda looks like that's the way it is under the rubber seal on the top of the windshield. On some cars, the rubber seal may hide it better than other cars, but I'd guess most are the same way. Mine only shows for a few inches right in the middle above the mirror, and even then it's not very noticeable. You can kinda see what looks like the same phenomenon under the rubber seal though.

Heading to my garage with my fingers crossed. I'm with OP, frustrating to encounter this on a brand new car. Hope things work out to your satisfaction.

you guys made me go out and look at mine. Mine looks great, but in one spot, if i look from a very low angle, i can see what you guys have. I assume its normal, but should be under the rubber instead of visible. I wouldn't accept that. They should break the seal remove the window, clean if off and reinstall it. Something like that should not be something to worry about redoing like if it was repaired in an accident. windows get replaced all the time

I went and looked at mine very carefully (have owned it for almost 3 months) after re-reading this thread. Discovered mine is actually the exact way it's described above. Never noticed it before and I am major OCD with this car. Purely very minor cosmetic issue to me, but I will keep an eye on it. Looks like the OP's is somewhat worse based on the pictures. Probably common, but varies in severity from car to car.

Sorry to get everyone's OCD going guys, wasn't my intent. I too tried to exaggerate as much as possible with the lighting as the first six comments were "need better pics". So there's definitely a procedure issue here at GM, mine's not a fluke

It looks more like edge delamination than bubbles.
