I have a 2014 made in Dec. 2013 and never had overheating, pop sound, nothing but working great for years now. Find another dealer/tech to help you. This is not normal. I would also call Chev. Help line.
I've had the same good experiences as above poster.
Being a daily driver, My top's been cycled 6 - 8 times a day, with no problems (yet).
That's why I worry about the long-term operation & got an extended warranty out to 7 yrs, since I'm sure convertible top & other mechanical issues will arise before any engine problems.
I would go all the way up the GM chain of command & demand a complete top replacement, if warranted, esp before the warranty runs out...
I had the overheat happen once and could not clear it. Disconnect you battery for a few minutes. That cleared mine.
I didn't disconnect the battery, but I did start the car and drove it a few miles. When I got home I cycled the top and the damn thing worked like designed. I do believe that I have Gremlins in my system. I still had the loud pop when it locked in the up position, but at least it is working again. I didn't have the guts to try it twice though.
Sorry to hear about your problems--and crappy local dealer
I have only had my 16 vert for about 6 months and have no problems at all........ but I went on the corvette caravan to Fla and the main reason I go is because there are 2 factory reps their that put on an hour seminar and then several hours of hanging around talking to all of us.....I love that and learn alot!!! I asked a factory rep about the possible failure of the convertible top and how to unhook the hydraulics to get it up......He very politely said I would strongly suggest you never do that unless it is an extreme emergency.....it would be a mess!!!
Just my 2 cents worth on that......but if your vette is still under warranty I would take that car to the most reputable dealer you can find and tell them you need a car to drive while they fix it and you should get that!!!
Good Luck!!!!
This has gotten me thinking about my top. It seems to work great no poping sounds, but it does slam onto the windshield and make a nosie then . It is even on both sides. Is this normal? Thanks

My top goes up evenly and actually sets onto the windshield gently. It's the mechanism inside the roof assembly that makes a popping sound.

My '07 C6's top hit the header a bit hard, but after 9 years and many cycles it never caused a problem. My '16 C7 doesn't, but my wife's '13 Mustang Vert does. After owning quite a few drop tops I don't worry about it as it just seem to be the nature of Vert's sometimes.

mine does the same, slam noise when hitting the windshield frame.

my does the same. if others are not slamming shut, then maybe mine needs an adjustment.
My 2017 C7 convertible top makes horrendous sounds. It happens when the top is in the down position. The latches do not grab at the same time. I noticed that there are black wear marks on the front part of the deck where the alignment pin is. When I put the top up, the latches pop because the rear deck is under pressure. The corvette mechanic tried every fix GM suggested. Still nothing. This coming Wednesday the tech that specializes in convertible tops will be at the dealership. Another bit of info. The dealership has a corvette convertible on the sales floor, that makes the same noise. I located another C7 convertible at a different dealership. That one makes the same noise as well. So, I am wondering if anyone has heard of a fix.
Thanks
Eran

Please let us know the fix if you get it done. Thanks
My 2016 Z has the same noise, top works fine but the pop seems to be the nature of the beast.
I had the overheat message once, I had to disconnect the battery for the problem to resolve itself. The computers on the car a super sensitive, & some time a re boot is necessary.
For what it is worth, I just had my top replaced (replaced for color change no problems). The installation shop noted that when the top is cycling, the hydraulic system pump is running. if the cycle is interrupted or stopped then the pump still runs but is being deadheaded (maintain pressure with no flow) and this will generate heat. This occurred while they were installing the top mid cycle with car powered up. They had to shut the car down during the cycle to stop this. Is it possible that you are stopping the top mid cycle to inspect for the popping? If so you need to power down the car or the pump will overheat. The design of the system is for the cycle to run completely down to up or up to down without interruption.
Several overheats will take some time to cool and also maybe damaging the pump/system.
Someone commented that you should see a top repair shop and I agree. You might be doing some costly damage to your system.
By the way, before replacing the top on mine, it also make some noises that I considered to be normal mechanics of the system.
Hope you get this figured out.

My 2014 was cycled many times and never had an issue. Did not notice any popping noise, just the header latches closing at the end of the up cycle. My new 2017, only cycled the top down and up in the showroom when I took delivery. The new car's system did sound slightly different than my old 2014. Been so cold, have not cycled the top since.
My 2014 Top was much quieter (actually it was silent) than my 2017 top ... I assume GM switched parts suppliers to save money if everyone with a 2017 has a noisy top mechanism.

New to the forum but have to post this about the convertible top. When holding the push button to fold the top down, at the mid-window area there is a split seam area of plastic where the top folds. Apparently there is a hydraulic oil line under there. On our C7 2017 the oil line has kinked and split spewing oil all over the passenger seat. Will be back with updates on the fix and cost. Top up for good for now.
