So, I have this problem with a very load “pop” when putting the top up. It sounds like it’s coming from the passenger’s side where the top makes contact with the windshield latch. The little silver roller where the latch moves under does not turn all of the time. It’s there where I think the noise is coming from. After trying to loosening it up several times and cycling the top up and down several times, I got the message and audio of “Top System Overheated, Please Wait”. I stopped there and went inside to watch a football game.
After the 3 hour game was over I returned to the car and put the top down once, no problems. When I went to put it back up I got the overheating message again. How long does it take for the system to cool? I would have thought 3 hours would have been enough.
Didn't know about the over heat message. My top doesn't pop or make any other odd noises. I have owned it, three summers now, it has been cycled often.
I'm going to let it sit overnight and try it again in the morning. Hopefully it will work as it is not completely up and locked. Don't know what I will do if I can't get the top up or securely stowed down. The laud popping noise is only an issue if I want to sell it which I intend to do. I had taken it to the closest dealership that has a Corvette trained technician about the popping and he said that he had no idea how to troubleshoot the convertible top. I was hoping that someone here on the forum had some experience with this issue.
My 16 had a loud pop at the passenger side back when the cover closed. Dealer installed a new hinge but pop is still sort of there. Not sure where it is now when cover closes. Think it is one of the latch points at the back of the cover. I put silicone lube on the points which sort of decreased noise. When dealer tried to discover the cause it took several hours as the top would overheat very quickly. I think it is engineered to only operation open/close once before overheating. It takes a long time for it to cool down so it can operate. I just don't worry about it now as mine seems to latch. It is a pain to try to discover cause in a short time with the overheat problem.
My 2017 popped when I got it. I found the piece of trim that covers seatbelt and has hinged flap was not seated correctly. I pushed it in and aligned properly and no more pop. I do get another smaller pop back near the trunk I think. Haven't investigated that one yet. My 2014 was perfectly silent.
If it bothers you, you might look for a convertible top replacement shop. They work on them all the time. It'd be out of your pocket probably but at least it might get done right the first time. Just a thought.
I have had my top up and down a lot and stopping it half way to try and track down a squeak in the deck lid. When it overheats it only takes 5-10 minutes to work again. I don't know why you yours overheats so quick, I can put the top down and then back up and it doesn't overheat.
Does it make the noise when the top comes down and hits the windshield?
If it does do you have these rubber boots over the pins? They are there to insulate where the pin goes into the dished receiver. Here is a photo of my pins, also does the top hit the header evenly or does the passenger side hit first?

I'll have to look for the boots, I have never noticed them. As far as the top going down evenly, it appears to lower on both sides at the same time.
I have a 2014 made in Dec. 2013 and never had overheating, pop sound, nothing but working great for years now. Find another dealer/tech to help you. This is not normal. I would also call Chev. Help line.
Well, I went out this morning to check on my convertible top. As you know from an earlier post I received a Top System Overheated, Please Wait again indication. The car set all night and this morning I got the same message on the first attempt to lower the top. As the top is not completely locked in the up position I am not sure how I will even get it to the dealer. Is there a "reset" switch some where? How can I get in touch with Chevy Customer Support? Help...
Is there a way to "manually" disengage the automatic system and pull the top up with mild force? Hate to think of having the top down and encounter a rainstorm and getting the "...wait for it to cool off..." message.

The top is up but not locked. The driver's side lock in the pillar post is not locked. The tonneau cover is down and locked but the back of the top itself is not locked. I live about 2 hours from a Chevy dealer that is Corvette certified. I have sent Chevy Customer Service a private message but have not heard anything from them.
Just went out and cycled my top 3 times in quick succession - up/down; up/down; up/down - without any warnings.
I also checked the little rollers at the top of the windshield where the latch hooks onto. They spin freely. The top appears to hit the windshield evenly, and the latches tighten down evenly at the same time.
My thoughts: I wonder if your top mechanism is binding causing the motors to work extra hard and thus become overheated. Again, if the top mechanism could be (easily) disconnected from the motors, the entire mechanism could be easily checked for freedom of movement.
Does your top cycle appear to slow down at any point during the complete cycle? ...meaning the top goes up all the way at the same speed without slowing midway; the tonneau cover moves without slowing, etc.

Just trying to help..
I didn't notice it binding or slowing down anytime during the process. It just stopped and I got the overheating warning. I'm on the phone with Chevy Customer Service (hold) now. I'm in hopes that there is a reset or something that I am able to do here without taking it on the hwy to the dealer.
Well, I went out started the car and “Indexed” the windows. Not sure why this was necessary but it says to do it on page 2-30 of the Operator’s Manual. The top went all the way down with no problems and then all the way up and locked. Other than the loud pop on both sides of the top this time, it went up and locked. I let the car run for a minute or two and tried to lower the top again. It would not function, again saying the system was overheated. There is definitely something wrong with the motor or heat sensing system. At least now I can get it to the dealer two hours away.
