Any reason to stay away from 2014 model year?

The problem with asking active forum members about any potential issues with a recent model is that you're not getting a representative pool of most of the cars in the road. I am not saying there are any problems with the 2014, but if there were, forum members could be less likely to experience them because most of the active members are enthusiasts, and as such they will be more maintenance-oriented than other more casual C7 drivers. These cars are pampered, beloved, and some barely driven. In today's market even an economy car should be problem-free well past 100k with standard maintenance, so for the most part it is just too early to say if the C7 will be a stalwart of reliability or just average, but it is fair to say that it is as good a choice as any.
When I am pondering potential issues and reliability, I want to hear from someone who sets out with the intention of finding out what problems might arise, I want to see the worst-case scenario. That is why I would balance the overwhelmingly positive reviews here with an unrealistically tough review given by C/D in their long term test. Some of their complaints are completely non-sensical, like mentioning that the front tires wore out in 31k, which is honestly longer than I would have expected them to last on a Z51, but the nice thing about it is that they leave no stone unturned, they intentionally share every nit and nag so that the reader can decide what issues to dismiss.

A 2014 has been on the road for 2-3 years. Check the warranty repairs at your nearest dealer for the particular car you are looking at and if it hasn't had any significant repairs, it should be a good car. In fact, if your looking for an automatic transmission car, the A6 in the 2014 should hold up better than the A8 in a 2015 or 2016.

My 2014 non Z51 was delivered in November of 2013. Currently have 22,000+ miles on it. Two problems. Needed to have the touch screen replaced about six months ago and now have just received a recall for airbags. Other than that it has been clear sailing.

Make sure the transmission and differential fluids have been changed. Low milage or not. This is something that will prolong the life of the car.
Love the car. No intention of trading for a newer model. If you have concerns, get a GM extended warranty.

...and to prove a $30k difference is laughable......KBB Private Party value on a used 2014 2LT with 15k miles is $4,500 lower than a similarly optioned used 2016 with 5k miles.
($49,000 vs $44,500)

Let me spell it out more clearly for you. Should I type S L O W E R ?
If they are the same price or close, the 2016 has some better features (aka Improvements). If the Price is far enough apart so that the improvements are not worth the cost difference then it doesn't matter.
In other words, if they are basically identical in cost, get the newer one. If there is a savings that, in your opinion, out weights the features (assuming they are on the one you are looking at) then there is no reason to not buy the earlier model.
Another concept for you, Exaggerated numbers to help convey the point at hand. Yes I know that from 2014 to 2016 there is not going to be a $30K difference. However if you happen to come across a GREAT deal (they are out there from time to time), I certainly would not by pass a 2014 for 2016 if the money was right.
If you need a complete break down of any more of it please feel free to reply and I will do my best to help you understand.

Ok, so you don't understand simple concepts.

No..still loving my 2014-- just received the airbag warranty recall notice in the mail and need to get that done. Approximately 9200 miles on my car now and will be three years old in January.

Say the factory warranty on a '14 is just about ready to expire: would it be better to have the dealer CPO the car or get the extended warranty coverage? Need to know in preparation for negotiating tomorrow.

Well, I went ahead and did it.
Made a deal on a 2014 2LT Z51. Expecting to pick it up tomorrow, thanks for all the feedback, it certainly helped with my comfort level in buying.
