A8 help
Hi guys, I have 2015 2Lt with the A8(first Vette). The car is driven fairly regularly, 14,000 miles in just over 2 years. Love the car and wish I could have convinced the wife to buy one many years ago, since she loves driving it too. Tranny was fine until about 10,000 miles and i started to feel all of the symptoms, delayed engagement when shifting into reverse and forward, shuddering when going from V4 to V8, rpms moving up and down when in cruise. I used manual shifting for a while but that started to get worse, got the Range AFM disabler, which allows me to drive it at what I consider 80% normal. What I'm looking for is anyone in New Jersey that has had their A8 repaired that can make a recommendation of a dealer to take the car to. I purchased it from Kerbeck, but they told me yesterday that they have never heard of any problems with the A8. I appreciate any recommendations. Thanks

Surprised the dealer has never heard of your problem. It seems to be pretty widespread.

I figured with as many Corvettes as they sell they would know of the issue, but they just kept saying they know of no problems with the tranny. Called my salesman there and he said the same. I'm just looking for a dealer who has dealt with it already

Impossible, I have a feeling GM has sent a memo telling Dealers to down play transmission issues to discourage warranty claims on the A8 transmission. It's not just Corvette the trucks have issues also. Just use Google to search the issue.

You MUST find a dealer who has already replaced torque converters, the more the better. When my TC failed at 10,000 miles, I took my car to a dealer and their corvette tech took it on a test drive and told me that he found no problems with my tranny. I found on the forum a dealer in my area who had replaced some TC's and took it to them and in 5 minutes they told me I needed a new TC. Dealers who have replaced TC's know the symptoms. The TC was replaced and the car has been flawless.

Kerbeck's response is preposterous! Whoever you talked to is blowing smoke. There certainly are issues with the A8. How widespread I don't know but there are several TSBs out there so clearly there are known and documented issues. Ask me how I know. My car was laid up and disassembled for over 30 days waiting for GM to approve the repair and then for parts. It does seem to be fixed now but I have only driven about 1K miles since the repairs were completed.

Contact customer support or use the phone number in the warranty book in the OM. Get all the info U can from this forum and get the TSB's that have been generated and make some noise. Like others said take it to a big dealer who deals with a lot of vettes. No telling how many trannys/TC have been changed out. Clearly GM didn't do the R/D on the A8 and are now talking A10. Who needs that many gears, NUTS

Did you see some of the symptoms before the 10k mark, or was all working fine? From what I have been reading, 10k seems to be common for the problems to really show

I can't believe the #1 Corvette dealer in the country hasn't heard of the A8 problems. Hell, just a casual look at this section of the forum should tell them something. Hopefully Dave from Kerbeck will see this thread, and explain how this is possible.

oasis chevy on rt 9 in old bridge? DON'T TAKE IT THERE. I had my harmonic balancer on my C6 replaced there, and while i thought they handled everything well, including the aftermarket warrantee i used for it, when i got home i saw the whole underside rocker panel on the drivers side scratched and gouged to ****. As if it slid off the lift pad and scraped. Couldn't prove they did it because the video i took before i dropped the car off didn't show the underside well. Thank god it wasn't noticable unless you got under the car. THEN, i tried them one more time to reflash the ECM to get an aftermarket tune removed and back to stock, they told me they didn't want to do it because they were afraid reflashing it could damage the ecm. REALLY???? have they never flashed an ECM before? anyway, i'm thinking of trying all american chevy on rt 35 in middletown when i need work done, but i don't know if they've replaced any TC's....

I would like to know if there is any way you could get a number of how many trannys and TC have been replaced since the A8 in 2015. I bet every major dealership has replaced at least one if not more. GM knows about it and I know Kerbeck knows it. Like others have said they are the biggest dealer in the nation. Again make some noise, squeaky wheel gets the grease. Customer support and GM monitors this forum so maybe they will chime in and help the OP out.

They usually print memos in Black & White.

No Black & White association here if that's where you are going with that comment. I am well aware of all of the tranny issues and have followed all threads about them, taken many screenshots of TSB #s and everything related to it. I was expecting this type of response from the dealer and was just asking for people in NJ, whether it be North, Central or South Jersey that may have had this done already and were satisfied with a dealership. Hopefully I will find someone that has.
