Despite my attempt at humor in a previous post suggesting the use of a CD player is easier than all the ripping and sorting of songs, if there was a CD player in my Corvette I would rarely use it.
My older DD has a six disc player that isn't used because I plug my iPhone into the input jack. In the Corvette I use a USB stick in the port behind the screen.
Using iTunes on a PC it makes it real simple to transfer songs from a CD to whatever mass storage gizmo you want to use. It rips the songs into the library and lets you choose the whole album or just some songs. It takes a while but does it unattended after telling it to go.
I am not the organizing type so I want my entire library on one device and ready to play in the car. I find it is quicker to transfer the music to a USB stick than it is to the SD card so I use that. I drag and drop the whole library to the stick at once and let the car use the embedded iTunes info to do the categorizing and sorting. It works well.
In the SD slot is a card full of top-down music with a selection of loud and fast songs plus some of my favorite oldies from the 60s. That lets me feel the wind in my hair even though I am bald up there! If I want to hear all the tones in the music I wear my hearing aids, but when using the top-down card I just crank it up a little.
I have never been real picky about perfection of sound so I think the system they put in my 3LT is wonderful and I like having the ability to find every song track I own by pushing buttons while I drive. Every device I use (USB, SD, Bluetooth iPhone) is instantly available so the only time I would use a CD player is when a passenger brings something they want to hear.
LOL . . . I actually keep a 10-year old iPod mini in my center console plugged into my C7 aux jack in the same location. Works great, but largely redundant w/ the BT-streamed music on my iPhone.
LOL. Most all of my music is on vinyl LPs. Transferring them to mp3 format is a real PITA.
I bought one of those converter record players but the software doesn't split by song. All the songs on one side of the record are ripped into a single mp3. Splitting that big mp3 into individual song mp3 files is really, really painful. Is there software now that will recognize individual songs and split them out?
Another problem with ripping CDs is that it really doesn't work for books on CD. There is no easy way to get the 10 to 12 CDs that may comprise a single book to play in the correct order when converted to mp3 format. Either the ripped CDs don't play in order, or the mp3 files don't play in order. Makes it really tough to follow a book when the stuff is out of order. I have just about given up on this.
NONSENSE...a CD player is a "PITA"
Son, you have no idea what a Pain-In-The-*** really is.
When I have to fumble through hundreds of CD's looking for one of them while driving a car with lots of power in traffic and I compare that to just saying "OK Google, play <such and such>" I don't know about you but *I* consider that a PITA!
Oh and I'm not your son either!
Back off a bit, Hoss...relax. Internet Rule #481: never direct blind accusations at people you don't know (unless you're D.Trump).
There is no "Internet Rule #481" nor any other numbers (random dudes making up stupid rules notwithstanding). When it's common that people misrepresent their abilities (and it's common here) I see no problem with directing blind accusations at people I don't know. As I always say: The time to believe something is true is when it has been shown to be true - and not before. And since we are pulling fictitious rules out of our rear quarters - that's logic rule #2.
I just got through reading a half dozen reports of C7 owners using essentially a Walkman in their cars to play CD's. I won't bother getting into GM's "millennial" tilt in removing CD players from cars millennials can't afford and don't want, like Corvettes; what I am interested in is if anyone has yet found a viable add-on CD player for this car. And before anyone selects a hand release, please don't suggest that I do more work (i.e. "rip", "stream", "download" etc.) just to hear music I already own. I'm looking for a CD player for this car. Has anyone found one?
First off, i'm 34, which makes me a millennial. I bought my C7 in April 2014 when I was 31. I WANTED it, and had NO PROBLEM affording it. Your direct comment on this is disrepectful, insulting, and totally uncalled for. I've not used a CD player in my car for over 10 yrs. not since USB and bluetooth music from my iphone came along. The world has changed and im sorry you don't like it but nobody wants CD's around anymore. Its a dead technology. My assumption is that you aren't smart enough to figure out how to use itunes to rip your CD's and put them on a digital medium. For that, I apologize to the Corvette community for you bringing down the standards of Corvette owners.

i have an ion turntable with usb output. will this software pick up the input from the usb? i can use my regular turntable and amp but the layout is not easy to navigate.

Yes it does. I used it with many methods. Traditional stereo connected to my computer line in, and via USB with my Sony USB turntable. Works well. It isn't expensive either. I started doing this in 1995. I have tried them all and this one is the best I have used in detecting the blank areas on the vinyl between cuts. Try it, you'll like it.
it is a sorry, inferior system that GM has decided to saddle the Corvette with. That there is NO aftermarket player that can possibly wired into the Corvette infotainment says it all, knowing that the "storage area" behind the center screen was without question designed for a CD changer.

You, I am sure, will forgive me for sincerely remarking that you might curb your magnanimity by keeping your insults to yourself.

All that's needed is to wire or plug a player into the AUX.
The C6 had an Optional out of Dash 6 Disc CD player which a Stereo shop should have no problem connecting into the C7 system.

Not true . . . just connect the headphone jack of this little gem into the aux jack of your C7 and you're good to go.

I tried a circa 2005 iPod Mini in the USB, and it didn't recognize it. However, it works great in the C7 Aux port connected to the iPod headphone jack. The sound quality is actually pretty spectacular.
