If you've ever driven a manual car in bumper to bumper traffic every single day, no matter how much you love shifting for yourself it eventually becomes a real chore. When I purchased my C5 back in 2004 I was working in downtown Toronto, a 50 mile commute round trip, in probably the worst traffic in North America. So that car had to be automatic, for my own sanity. When I traded it for a C6 in 2013, I was no longer working downtown so I went back to a manual this time. But occasionally I do get stuck in brutal traffic, and I realize it's just not fun under those conditions. When I know I'm going to face bad stop and go traffic, I don't drive my Corvette. So it sucks to have to make that choice.
When I get my C7 next year, it's going to be automatic. I will miss shifting for myself for sure, but now I can take the car anytime I want and also my wife can drive it too (she really misses driving a Corvette, and she's helping pay for it!!)
PS-I can't believe I'm sticking up for Thunder22 after all the crap he gives me for being a Lewis Hamilton fan!
F you , no one asked you to agree with me, and Louise sucks
mine throws codes when left in and not removed. I do know that on start up the ecu cycles thru those actuators and if it sees that they are open by having AFM delete in and cannot cycle, al la a code of many colors...
i start mine, then plug in Range then unplug it before I turn car off, no codes. Mine is brand new not even 2 weeks old and the 2nd day of use the next morning after leaving it in full time, codes. Fwiw
I had the same experience.
mine has thrown the CEL twice and both time I had forgotten to unplug it when I shut the car off.
I can kinda understand it confusing the ECM on startup but it's kind of a pain having to remember to unplug it
Otherwise works perfectly
I also have one of those dongles that let you clear the codes from a cellphone

I"m sending mine back for a refund. When they get the firmware right and it doesn't throw codes, i'll buy it again.
I took a buddy to the races at VIR about a month ago and in my excitement when we got there I forgot to unplug it.
When we got ready to leave it threw the code
Pretty embarassing
fortunately I had that dongle to reset it and he didn't really understand what I was doing

You can also unplug the Range module, start the car, and then plug it back in and it will clear the active codes.
If that's true does it also clear code thrown for other reasons?
Not that I have any other codes but if I did I think I'd want to know about them before some gadget cleared them out

Here is a link to the Range FAQ item about CEL/DTCs and my take is it will clear ALL of the current DTCs (but not from history). I wouldn't use this procedure unless there was NOT a CEL prior to the Range "event".
Until Range figures this out I think the best way to use their module is either use the switched OBD-II cable to turn it on after startup or build the circuit suggested by Flame Red if you want it to work automatically. I have been driving in manual mode but to me it isn't a big deal to switch the module on and off if I want to use it. To me it is no different than having to turn the seat fans back on when I start up.
I've been driving in manual mode mostly and coming to like it but if I want to drive in auto I just plug it in after startup. Should be the same as the on/off switch. I don't find plugging it in to be much trouble
Thanks for the link
I'm right there with ya! Pain and I also expect to plug it in, not have to worry about battery drain, and have zero cels. Paid $200 from corvette mods. I've even considered buying the diablo tuner just to turn off AFM but I just paid a chunk for mods to carbon up some engine covers for me. I'll continue supporting corvette mods and not return it just yet. I sure do love though the way it drives with the Range in, so freaking smooth!!! Worth the hastle for that glass smooth ride, a totally different car for me. I even unplug my 9s Windbooster when I use the Range, dig that smooth and strong feel!
