Interior trim piece
Going to replace my 2LT Dash Pad Trim piece (black) to Kalahari and also want to replace the extended leather piece that runs behind the brushed aluminum face on the drivers side door panel. I found a discussion on the forum that says you can remove the two pieces on the door panel with out removing the panel. Going to provide a pic that was on the discussion. Just looking to see if anyone has any insight on this.

They are just held on with push pins. They pop off, just use a plastic trim tool would be my only recommendation.

Geez, I don't specifically remember for those. I generally approach removing any piece by trying to get my trim tool under it then lifting to see how much give it has in a spot. Looking at that piece, maybe towards the back by the switch? Start by getting that push pin out first then moving forwards. That piece lifts straight up too, keep that in mind when you're removing it. Sometimes there's a weird angled pin that can be tricky.

But OP here look at the points that the pins are at on the panel. Then use the plastic tool at those points & they will come out a ton better & also will not make any marks on the pieces's.

First, that leather trim piece with the 4 screws also has pin that goes through the door panel with a nut on the back. I just removed the screws and with a little pressure, popped it off. When you put it back together it will be fine without that nut on the back. Also, unless something has changed, to get that matching color to your new dash piece on your door panel, you would have to buy the complete door panel (the door part you are removing is not sold separately. The only other thing you could do is get the matching material and have an upholstery shop do the replacement. I had an upholstery shop do the entire thing.

Just a tip on removing the dash cover. The top center clips over the speed odometer pull towards the steering wheel instead of straight up, and of course push in when installing the new pad. I started at the lower right side with the trim tool, worked my way up to the center, then went to the left side, then take the trim tool to loosen the top clips, and pull the cover towards you. It's not hard as it sounds.
BTW, if you have a Harbor Freight near by, they have a trim tool set for seven bucks. Good enough for the shade tree mechanic.

Incorrect, you cannot remove the leather wrapped door trim piece without removing the door panel, yes, you can pop off the aluminum trim pieces and there are a few clips for the leather strip but what you can’t get access to is a metal friction ring holding the leather strip to the back of the door panel. You could d]try to shimmy it off or force it off but you’ll deform the plastic and you’ll still need to access the back of the door panel to secure the new leather trim piece. I’ve done this is swap (black leather trim to adrenaline red) on my driver side door.

I know this is an old thread, but thanks for the info on how to remove those pieces. Will come in handy should I ever decide (or need) to change out those pieces.
