I guess I'm lucky as I also get it on 2-3 also

I live rural on mountains back roads with very few LEGAL passing zones. Some LEGAL zones are over 5 miles apart!

Get some road hog clown ahead of you and you got to pass you want to do it fast and get back on your side of the road. Put it to the floor and if your lucky you get the "backfire" right next to the slowpoke driver, it most certainly wakes them up!

Actually if you no lift shift fast enough it sounds just like the A8 popping.

have never heard a pop or backfire on my car or any car when accelerating, i would be very nervous about that, unless it is just loading up from tooling around and then when you decide to hit it a month later, may be possible. have never heard it from my car on regular ****, granny **** or no lift shifting. interesting.

When you should get nervous is after you hear the third pop. You'll be in 4th gear at that point. Guess how fast you'll be going? 115!
When you hit 3rd you're only going about 93. Of course I've never done this, but it is in the manual.

You beat me to it. I have grown to love the "backfire" and also time my shift as I am next to the driver door. And if I am really lucky, it's a Prius that I am passing.

My 17 GS does it on every upshift at redline. I think it sounds amazing and everybody that hears it loves it.

I just got a 2017 GS a couple of weeks ago and noticed the pops under hard acceleration. I was worried it wasn't normal. I do drive in sport mode most of the time.

since I dropped the Borla in my GS... still get the brap on heavy accel but when I let up on throttle to coast up to a light it's like the forth of July with multiple rumbles of back pressure .. that alone is worth the price of admission ..

late into the party. But how is your A8 after all these years of backfiring? And at what rpm do ya get the backfire normally?

Oh yeah, I'm sure you can tune that out, just as you can tune in pops, less fuel in the cylinders will fix that right up..
