Sectioning off the 3rd garage bay

When my (4) kids were little and it came to my cars, I'd tell them
"Don't be like Timmy".
Since there is no Timmy, they'd look at me weird and ask "Who's Timmy?", to which I'd say:
"You know, Timmy, our first child. The one that scratched Dad's car."
It was a joke, of course, but delivered completely dry they seem to all have remembered it and stayed away from the cars. Never got a single bicycle scratch or ding from any of 4 kids in 18+ years yet!
And we have Timmy to thank for it!

Why such a big bottom plate (2 x 8 ?) for the wall framing??

Seems to be a bit of an over the top reaction, but if it makes you feel better I guess that is the bottom line.

I think it is a great idea to section off the garage from your kids or grandkids. Nothing worse than getting mad at a child over a scratch or ding on a Corvette. BUILD THE WALL!!

True story: last summer, c7 in my driveway and I'm washing. 6 year old grandson, Luka, sees me wiping the corvette with a microfiber towel, and copies me by wiping down the front hood/trunk lid of my 911 which was in the garage minding its own business, using his Bob stuffed toy doll.
It's what little kids do--you can wall off the whole car and if there's any way for a kid to get to it, they will!

If you're right that it does turn out to be too inconvenient, which is possible I admit, i can always take it apart.

I can understand the goal and it looks like the project is near completion.
FWIW I might have consider a 4 ft high hall, with a counter top (so to say) so you beer has a place to rest. Lighting, heating, etc shared from the rest of the garage
None the less ...nice addition.

Thanks Kenny! Another reply also mentioned a knee wall. I do like a short wall idea best; however, our male Australian Cattle Dog can jump to counter height from a standstill. With a running start after a seeing the cat laying on the blanketed C7 roof, he'd leap the knee wall and be on top my C7 in the blink of an eye if the cat was laying there taunting him.
I seem to remember another poster a while back noting this his big dog pushed his motorcycle over into his C7.
My ceiling is over 12' clear. The wall will just be 8', made w/standard pre-cut studs. So we'll still share lighting, heating, etc. I'm still thinking about a picture window though...

as an licensed architect, I would recommend the bottom plate be the same size as the wall framing. there is no advantage, you are giving up valuable floor space.

Do you really think a wall is going to protect your car from grandkids? LOL.

Another option which you probably already considered: With a 12' ceiling, you could have installed a 4-post lift. That way, one could raise the car up and store it out of reach, have a lift to do maintenance on the car including easily detailing the underside (you are picky about your C7, no?), created another parking space for an additional car if you so desired, and avoided closing off the 3rd bay from the rest of the garage.

^^^Yes but probably far more expensive than the wall, as constructed (but does serve a dual purpose!). Still, the OP's solution is one answer, and there are some others here, too, for him to consider. That dog leaping from a running start is certainly one to consider. To me, it just takes up too much "space," both floor and width-wise even with the idea of both a door and a window.* And if I was going to do a door, I'd do the more-compact, pocket door altho that may not be possible now. The noodle on the wall IS A good idea!
* I do have one friend with a custom garage that is both extra deep and extra-extra wide. He could easily (if he wanted to) build a full-height wall and hardly impact his three-car garage. I'd say it's easily 40'W x 30'+D.
