There are no tests that back up any of Rocky Mountains claims that they scramble anything. In fact there are multiple tests that show that they simply do not work at all for scrambling radar signals.

Earlier post in this thread talks about stealth installation in states where RD's are illegal. That might help some, but probably better to get a RD that is invisible to radar detector detectors. Check out rdforum.org. This topic and more than you'd ever want to know on radar and laser can be researched there. I run an Escort Max 360 which is not invisible to law enforcement, an ALP laser jamming system and Waze.

the only issue with your mount is the v1 should be mounted at the highest point. Gives it more range especially when going over a hill.

You do realize that radar scrambling is super illegal, right?

Dangerous, too.

Laser scrambling is a completely different issue.

I've had a Valentine1 for many years. It was good for its time but now is sadly outdated. My new detector, a Passport Qi45 says KA band. The Valentine1 says beep. My Passport Qi45 has a built-in GPS so it can tell if you are speeding based on its database. The Valentine1 has no database (red light cameras, etc) and the Valentine1 has no GPS. It is nice to be able to set your detector to only go off above a certain speed, say 25 MPH. I also have a Laser Jammer/shifter/scrambler/etc. So if someone shoots my car with laser it gets jammed. The one unit not to get is the K40 radar detector. It works poorly and costs an arm and a leg to get it installed. Of course the installation shops love it.

Since I live in VA I wanted a good detector that I could hide and that was immune to the Spectre Radar detector detector.

Laser scrambling is legal. Radar is not.

In most states laser jamming/shifting/scrambling/etc is illegal but they have to catch you first. My jammer will jam the signal for a short time and then cuts off. Hopefully when it goes off, detecting laser, I'll have enough time to reduce my speed before it cuts off and the police can get a lock on me.

In Virginia radar detectors are illegal. I had a Fairfax county policeman riding with me, the president of my car club and when he became aware of my radar detector he commented that it was illegal. I asked him what the fine was for a radar detector. He said it was $35. I said what is the fine for speeding and he said so much for each mile per hour over the limit plus a base fine, etc, etc. Much more than $35. So I asked him what he would prefer, a speeding ticket or a radar ticket. He preferred the radar ticket.

A side point. A county policewoman, a friend of mine, was on my main street shooting laser. I didn't even know the county had laser. She showed me how it worked. She was on foot and would shoot it about 5 blocks down the street. She said I'll get their speed before they even see me and when they get close I'll pull them over. I tried to picture me coming down the road and my laser detector going off. If I didn't have my jammer she would have gotten me already BUT because of the detector I would know she was ahead. Since the street is a local street it has many side streets. The smart thing to do would be as soon as my detector went off, I would turn off on a side street. I know she would not have then jumped into her police car and come after me so I would duck the ticket.

My information is that laser jamming is legal in more states than not. Regardless of legality, the procedure is to cut off your jammers at legal speed when you've been shot with lidar.

What's new? I haven't updated mine in 10 years, so it's time, but what will I notice for the better if I do it? The "upgrade" is close to the cost of a new detector for me.

I probably should. So long as I'm plain that it's ten years old and not updated, it works perfectly otherwise.

But then if I were buying a NEW detector, would I buy a V1? I also have Escorts in other cars and am happy with them, but have never played with the new 360 model with arrows.

How does the 360 compare to the V1, esp. for people that have had a V1 and switched?

I went through analysis paralysis on this right after getting my C7 a month and a half ago, and finally settled on the V1 with Savvy and concealed display for my vert.

I wired it up similar to this video:
and have been quite pleased so far. It has already paid for itself.

Back in about 2000 I sent Mike Valentine an email about an idea I was thinking of filing a provisional patent on: an OBD2 connection for radar detectors so that they could know the vehicle speed and turn down false alarms when those speeds were low (like shopping mall parking lots).

He wasn't very interested, said there was prior art, so I never pursued it. Now I see he has it as a product!

I'm absolutely NOT saying the guy stole my idea, as ideas are cheap and free and it's the whole "make it and sell it and run a business" part that's hard, and like I said, he said there was prior art anyway, and my patent would have expired in 2016 if I could have even gotten one.

Still, it's vindication that it wasn't such a bad idea after all!

Chalk it up to a valuable lesson learned.
BTW, I have had things like that happen to me too.
