Radar Detectors

Okay so I been reading on both the V1 and Max 360.
On the V1 it apears that in order to get the best performance you need to use your andriod and then also download some apps. No problem there but i was wondering if any of you could tell me if you still have use of your phone. There is a Bluetooth adapter so you are wireless to the V1 but i also use my phone for my music and i use it through bluetooth. I guess you could plug one in and bluetooth the other but can you run booth apps at the same time.
It appears that V1 has more range than the Max 360 but the Max 360 is plug and play and needs no apps. Valentine in all got much better ratings including quality.
My main concern is not having to tie up my phone to operate the radar at full potential.

I had the 9500ci with front and rear laser shifters on my M5. That system saved me from getting a few tickets. I since traded in that car for my current z06 and recently got the passport max 360. its normally $650 but found it last wk on amazon for $550. Havent taken it on an extensive road trip yet but I do like all the features it has when you use the app. I also use waze app when I go on my road trips.
FYI... I just checked amazon and looks like they still have it for $550.

The feature I like most is setting "speed trap" spots where I mostly drive. It's easy to forget they might be hiding so the gal saying, "Speed Trap" is a help! Few false alarms so when I hear a beep I'm 5 over the limit max! When I hear her remind me I might be coming up to a speed trap, I do the same!

Any good detector is better than none. Of course you first line of defense is situational awareness. Don't be stupid and speed over hills and around blind corners and things like that. Don't weave in and out of traffic as things like that draw attention. OR, I guess you could always go the speed limit which is about boring in a Corvette.

I bought a used Passport RD/laser jammer, license plate flash and install for both for less than the cost of a good new RD, $750 CAD.

Valentine 1 has always been considered the best especially with the helpful arrows. For years I have been using the Escort Solo S3 which is battery operated meaning no frickin wires to hide or hang down. Its also portable to use with rental cars etc. Just don't forget its there on the rental return! No matter what brand you buy or how much you spend, any cop using instant on will get you.Thankfully most just use the non instant on mode especially if they are in motion. False alerts are a pain and the more expensive brands tend to filter them out better.

interesting post about ESCORT and purchase etc. i am on my third SOLO (its a 3),its 6 years old and no problems .no tickets in 30 years. i also watch my speed and know the surroundings etc . about to order the SOLO 4 which was just released a month or so ago.i drive 4 different vehicles(2 of which are a z06 and a pontiac g8 gxp) so the cordless route works for me. nothing looks more ridiculous than cords hanging from the RD unit down to the dash etc. on a performance car etc. drive safe everyone.Speeding really doesn't save much time compared to a ticket.....

My Redline has paid for itself, but as with all things in life a radar detector is only a part of the equation.
Good situational awareness, familiarity with your route, knowledge of where cops usually hide, knowing which jurisdictions are more stringent than others, et al all help in reducing tickets while allowing you to drive "faster."
I typically limit my speeding to freeways, going more than 5 over on surface streets isn't worth it. But the detector does make help you know if cops are around for other things especially if you are an aggressive driver (I can be sometimes, although less so than I used to be, must be getting old).

Mounted it to the roof of my 260Z and much better than the radar detectors in the mid '70's, which I had installed as well. (Mounted the bracket with 5 minute epoxy! Recall someone in the Z Club Monthly New Letter saying his held so well even in a front end accident! )
Recall my ~14 year old daughter used to love using the mike and could get instant response!
Was recently at a local truck stop looking at those they had for sale and asked a trucker who was looking as well if they are still used. They are but all are not on the one channel we were using for "bear sighting" in the '70s. Also recall that was the social media for some who were on their sets at home and usually chatting to truckers coming past! Were several gals on my fun drive on I77 from Erie to Pittsburgh.
