Default Changing Out Side Mirrors

Hello All,

I am in the market for a gently used C7 preferably a Z06 but the ones I have been looking at all have the side mirrors in the standard body color. Has anyone change out standard body color side mirrors for black or carbon fiber ones? If so, is it a hard process or maybe something a dealer could do and if you have what was the cost? I assume a dealer could order stock ones in black but I know there are aftermarket companies with different options.

Thanks!!

People have swapped them out, but I've never seen a DIY write up on it. If you have no plans of returning the mirrors back to the body color, I would have them painted black. It should be very easy to tape them up and spray them professionally and likely a lower cost option.

The factory black mirrors are painted in a color called "carbon flash" which is basically gloss black with some metal flake in it. I too prefer the black mirrors and bought my Z51 equipped the same way.

On edit: I believe some have also had theirs wrapped with good success. Anyway, just wanted to throw a couple options out there.

I've never swapped out mirrors on a C7, however it's usually as easy removing the door panel, removing a couple screw and and disconnecting the electrical connector.
Of course just removing/replacing the door panel can be quite a job on some vehicles, the C7 may be one of them.

Perhaps JerryU will be along here to offer some guidance, he seems to be very knowledgeable on this type thing.

Just make sure you swap out the mirror base as well as the mirror. I’ve seen some modded mirrors that kept the base body-colored and it looked odd. I personally prefer the body-colored mirrors as the black (Carbon Flash) mirrors remind me of entry-level trim sedans that all had the same, plastic black mirrors.

Hmm, taking the doors apart is a PIA and several folks report the driver's door trim not lining up with the upper dash pad after! Would think it would be significantly cheaper to have them sprayed, whatever color. Buying new mirrors and having a dealer install, for sure would cost more!

Just a thought!

Nope! Considered removing the driver's door panel to change the side red section of door panel molding to match the red 3LT upper dash trim I added.

First GM doesn't sell that part, you have to buy a whole new 3LT door panel! There is a company who will recover in red leather, but they want ~$300 if you send in the old part. They were not clear if the whole door panel needs to be removed to gain access to remove that section. To get the part to fit properly it appears you do.

Found a $10 solution I am very happy with!
Install info in this pic/text PDF: http://netwelding.com/Red_Dash_Pad.pdf

Black 2LT upper dash pad replaced with 3LT red pad to match seats ~$300. (2018 2LT comes that way now!)

Added red trim that slips into gaps! Used drop of glue on one end. Fits tight.

15 feet of trim for $10! Very good color match.

Added a piece to the drivers door as well.
