This is my experience with my 2014 Z51 and why I ordred the Stage 2 Aero Option for my Grand Sport with full length side skirts.

I bought the GM Splash Guards when I got my new 2014 Z51. Within a month that heavy GM plastic protection that comes with the car was marked from peddles. Just look where GM put it. They know how far the rocks go! Bought full length LG Motorsports carbon fiber side skirts (matched my visible carbon roof.) All marking stopped. In fact after a few months when I was sure removed the GM plastic! When I sold the car 3 years later the rocker panels looked new!

Have removed the GM plastic from my GS, which like the 2014 had discolored! Not one mark in 2 years even on the lower rear fender duct opening! Note I did add splash guards I bought before the car was delivered.

Drilling for rivets is easy. This is a picture/text of my install on the 2014: http://netwelding.com/Side_Skirts.pdf Composite drills like butter. Rivets need only a small hole. The only difficult part is phycological- drilling that first hole!

Watched as the Dearer C7 Tech drilled 13 holes per side for the OEM Stage 2 full length carbon fiber side skirts (mine are painted carbon flash on the GS.) Don't need that many as I used 5 per side on the Z51. No issue on where to drill as you use two factory bolts first that locate the side shirt. then drill, insert an aluminum rivet with a hand gun (cheap) and you're done.

Just like JerryU said. When I got my side rocker, rivets came with it. Yes they do have to be long enough to grab the car panel underneath and the panel underneath needs to be drilled. The side rocker already comes predrilled just follow their holes and drill to the car. hope this explains clear. You can always watch You tube and that will give you a better idea as well.

I received my used ACS skirts this week so no rivets came with them. In preparation I found a black plastic rivet and install tool at Harbor Freight for $15. Installed the skirts by myself with no issues using the five factory bolts. Did not tighten anything until skirts were adjusted. Started drilling and using the black plastic rivets in the center and working my way fore and aft on the side rocker area. It was hit or miss. Took about 3 rivets per drill hole and started wishing I had just gone with regular rivets. On the skirts and rockers below the frame, the plastic rivets were a NO-GO so ran to AutoZone and purchased a cheap rivet gun and assortment of rivets they had in 3/16 inch. Worked like a charm. No way those skirts are coming off while driving and skirts look great.. So went half and half with plastic rivets and aluminum rivets but doing all over again, I would just go with the aluminum rivets.

Make sure they are fiberglass and not plastic.

Make sure what are fiberglass, the rivets? I have not idea but look like plastic? What do I need to know if they are plastic? They look like the BMW ones posted in a different side skirt discussion. Either way, I will check them during oil changes and replace with aluminum. They seem very solid.

I used double sided tape and rivets, but that was not one of your poll options. BTW, my side skirts are rock solid.

First this thread is old

Second, there is no poll in this thread

Third, you have been victimized by the dreaded "Related thread" link at the bottom of the screen!

I used double sided 3m tape and the factory bolts. IMO there's no need to drill anything. Clean the surfaces well and use some adhesion promoter and you'll be fine. I have an aftermarket spoiler installed this way as well. Done correctly, they'll never come loose...
