I have a 2014 C7 Stingray L3. I have 3200 miles on it. About a year ago my display went our for a few days then came back on. Now the display is out or flickering. Took into the dealer and they charged me $198.88 for 3 software update. I am being told all software in now updated and this will solve the problem. But did not know I was being charged until I picked it up. Here are my issues.
1. When I told the service manager I was surprised at being charged he said it took them over 7 hrs to do and I was lucky it was not more.
2. The only thing on my invoice is "found updated for Radio, HMI and BCM/1.50 update modules.
3. This software update has now caused other issues as listed below
Issues:
A: Door sometimes will not up lock or lock after I get out
B: at times I get a mesg. that care can not find key fob.
C: Back up camera will not go off some times until I drive it for awhile (and not backwards).
D: Display goes off and on. When it is on it is flickering.
Question:
1. Does the cost for the update is software seem correct?
2. Has any one else had these problems. I would like to find out before I bring it back in.
Thank you for any response
This may help with the infotainment screen. Known problem. It could be a defective screen or loose connector. Depending how far you are out of warranty (I assume you are), see if the dealership can goodwill the replacement.
As for the dealer charging you for the update, I never assume fixes are free. I go over what needs to be done and they must call me to tell me the amount if any before proceeding with the repair(s).
For the seven hours time for the update, the tech did not sit in your car and watch the update progress. Just checked it periodically.
For the issues you are having now, I am guessing since your car is a 2014, you may have to replace your car battery. You might as well replace your fob batteries at the same time.
If you search you will find lots of HMI issues. Many have reported a connector that loosens as the display is raised and lowered repeatedly. I've never had display issues.
Replace your fob batteries - 3 years is about max life.
The camera seems to stay on for a few secs in 1st gear or maybe to 5 or 10 mph.
At typical dealer labor rates $198 doesn't even cover 2 hours - so OK.
