What about the car needing to sit for 8 to 10 hours after the flash?
The car can be driven immediately after the flash. It does not have to sit at the dealership. The temperature compensation will not be normalized until the vehicle has sat for 8 to 10 hours. Where and when this happens is irrelevant. When the vehicle sits for 8 to 10 hours, the temperature compensation will then be normalized.

Temperature Compensation is the GM Controller establishing what you might call a Zero point for the shock fluid temperature after it sits for those hours.
Reason being, the shock fluid viscosity changes as the temperature changes and in turn changes how the shocks react.
Once the controller has established the zero point, it compensates for temperature changes to the fluid viscosity to keep the shocks reacting the same during those changes.
