Default Brake Dust

I recently purchased a 2015 Stingray Z51. The amount of brake dust that is generated and deposited on the wheels and brake calipers is insane. I hear that there are pad replacements that will reduce this drastically. Recommendations ? Thanks in advance !

I installed Powerstops on my 2017 GS and I literally have zero dust. Best decision I ever made....

Carbo Tech has dust-free pads that are excellent too!

There's also the Carbotech 1521 Route. A bit more expensive, but I was spooked by the posts where some had experienced discoloring on the rotors from the Powerstops. No clue how widespread that issue really is, though. The Carbotechs still perform great, and greatly reduced dust on my GS.

I have them now on both cars! They stop the dust and the car. They both very well with no Corvette tax.

For a high quality aftermarket pad I recommend the Carbotech 1521 pad. 100% made in the USA. A low dust pad that is rotor friendly and performs like OEM and last longer. 100% non-corrosive dust will not harm your paint or wheels. This pad also contains NRS technology. Carbotech uses NRS technology on all C4, C5, C6 & C7 front and rear brake pads.

Here is a link to explain further what NRS technology is exactly: http://www.nrsbrakes.com

If interested I will be happy to help you out or you can order online here http://ampdautosport.com/brake-pads/corvette/ Use promo code z28 at check out for your 5% discount.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Felt the same when I got my 2014 Z51 in October 2013. Lived too long with cleaning my wheels after 2 trips into town (~100 miles.) If I didn't they not only looked bad the dust would pit my black wheels! Switched to Carbotech 1521's and excess dust was gone, 85% less IMO. What was there did not pit my wheels and I washed them only when I washed the car!

Got a Grand Sport and because of all the comments about the very low price of the Chinese Powerstop pads bought them before the car arrived. Changed pads when I got it home, easy to do. They did not stop as well when cold and I have a somewhat unique requirement that requires an aggressive stop from ~65 mph on a 4 lane highway to a rural road soon after I leave my home. In addition, I found the slots in the rotors were turning brown! Another poster showed after a year his rotors turned brown.

After 900 miles of giving them a try, I switched to Carbotech 1521's and I had my cold stopping performance back (even a bit better with the larger Grand Sport brakes!) After several thousand miles no brown rotors or slots, car stops great, no noise and I only clean my wheels when I wash the car!

The 1521's are for street use only and in fact are a bit cheaper than other quality low dust ceramic street pads like HAWK. Folks that have used the racing HAWK and Carbotech pads say the Carbotech have very linear modulation, which I find with the 1521's. They say the HAWK stop fine but are more on-off!

Powerstops had a "coloring" issue on the rotors from what I recall reading. The Carbotechs did not do that.

No coloring issues with mine, except maybe some more green coloring left in my wallet.

I switched to Carbotech 1521 from Adam on my GS..Big improvement on dust. Was considering Powerstops until I saw the Brown rotor thread. Who knows what else could happen with pads made in China. It's not worth it to find out.

On the 1521 pads are CT1001 and ct1718 the correct numbers for the c7 z51? I didn’t see a choice on the website.

Edit: just read above post and saw that I’m correct! Think I, gonna get me a set. Tired of the brake dust. 100 miles equals a couple thousand miles dust wise on stockers. Ha

You will see a great difference in the dust. I can go a long time without turning the wheels all dark and ugly.
