Well, that was a problem w/ your dealer because they have more access to more information than the Chat reps do. Sounds like your salesperson was either lazy or uninwformed.
which brings up another question that has been bugging me. How can I get the rail car number Without going through the selling dealer.
It didn't matter to me if I bought a new 2017 or 2018. I wanted a deal, and I accidentally ran across an in-State, new, 2017 at an acceptable deal to me. I'll consider the '16s through '19s, in one basket in my mind, going forward in time.
I don’t have a clue either. My one frustration has been that I’ve been unable to track it. Onstar was activated, but I haven’t been able to connect to it a single time. I figure it’s in a train car or the battery is dead.
That's all in your head, and hopefully, you can let that go and enjoy what you have.
I remember not too long ago when the early start to 2019 production was announced, quite a few members on here thought I should cancel my 2018 order and redo it as a 2019. I said why, it's the exact same car, plus I would probably not get the same deal. I never once considered cancelling the order, and I absolutely love this car!!! So far it's everything I hoped it would be, and more! I'm keeping it a very long time and don't give a hoot about resale value. And if anything, having one of the rare 2018s painted in the new paint facility might be something unique to talk about in the future (not that it'll be worth more)
Can’t help you with your delivery - but I can tell you the new orange ROCKS! We picked up our new GS Vert at the museum yesterday and there was an ORANGE GS just coming out of PDI - it’s an amazing color. Didn’t get to see it outside but the lights in the PDI bay at the museum are pretty amazing. Excited for you.

Since the 2018s have orange peel too, as you've reported yours does, the new paint facility doesn't seem to have made a difference. Not yet anway.
I don't know what you've been reading, but everything I've read is that it's much better. I'm quite sure I could find OP on your MB as well. I've never seen a mass-produced car I could not find OP on.
Hand sanding and polish after both base and clear coats is the only way to avoid it, and that's about a 40 hour process, much more time than it takes to build any assembly line car.
Forum reports of OP are totally unreliable. The hyper-critical can see it on any car, and the folks not focusing upon such things wouldn't see it on the worst of the old paint jobs.

Wrong. I have stated many times that my 2018 has VERY LITTLE ORANGE PEEL! (it's only very slight on the sides but on the hood, roof and trunk it's amazingly smooth with zero OP) So I think the new facility is turning out top notch stuff, very few people will complain about what they get unless they are super super picky.
Foosh,
If the 2018's paint is better, I have not read it. Oh sure, I've read nearly every new C7 buyer reporting that their's has less orange peel than others they've seen, but does that really mean anything?
Patman, specifically stated such - ^^^^ in so many words immediately after taking delivery.
BTW, my C7 has less OP than any other C7, I've seen too!

Well, you and I are reading different things. Perhaps you're confusing 2018s built before the new plant and those built when the new plant started painting production cars in late November. Very few of the latter have been reported on here thus far.

Presicely. Stating the obvious.
Since you brought my MB into reference - mines got greater OP surf than Waikiki ! But, exactly as Patman's C7, there's none on the horizontal surfaces - just like my 2017 C7.

Which is precisely why I'm referencing Patman's 2018 painted after the plant re-opened.......
Mike Furman reports that the new paint plant 18s they've had delivered are much better. That's the kind of report I find more credible than random reports here. Old Boy South, also did a video of a black one that looked amazing. I can only recall a couple of other reports here besides Patman, and both reported them better.
Much better does not mean zero OP. That is impossible on any mass-produced car. It can only be done as I described above in a laborious 40+ hour hand finishing process before and after both base and clear coats, and spending north of $20K.
A car at 4B00 status is waiting for transportation. Waiting for 11 cars to fill a truck going your way. ALSO cars at the 4B00 status are susceptible to being pulled out of line for QC. That is where random cars are pulled from for QC. Not a bad thing but would slow down the process a hair of getting it to the selling dealer.
