For music I preferred the Pandora app on my 15 to the buggy apple car play.

I connect the cord and use my Sirius App. Not as convenient as the screen Sirius but only $0 extra a month since I do have an account. I found some off brand cables really don’t work for squat. The car play is pretty useless. Audio is much more difficult than it was.

The problem I have with CarPlay is using Pandora. Frequently, it won’t properly launch the app so I have to go to the phone, close the app and then reopen it either the rough the infotainment screen or phone and then it will play on the infotainment screen. Also, I hate that the selection of songs is limited in scrolling to recently played stuff or the first part of your list.

I have a 2017 as well. What I found was that when I connected my iPhone (7 plus) via the usb plug behind the screen, the CarPlay icon appeared on the screen, and I could connect by touching the icon. When I used the center console usb plug the CarPlay icon would not appear. After much frustration, I found that touching the "telephone" icon would bring up CarPlay when connected via the console. I hope that works for you!

The only thing is you have to listen to the advertisements when using the Pandora app which locks you out of CarPlay. Since I would never subscribe to Pandora, I use CarPlay instead. The benefit is I can mute the Ads until they go away.
