Ordering a new Vette
My Grand Sport took 15 minutes on the phone (I knew exactly what I wanted.) Got a small dealer 30 miles away to accept Courtesy Delivery. A flat $250 although worth more in my case versus the first I bought from Kerbeck where I flew to Atlantic City, stayed overnight and drove it home after it arrived!
The Courtesy Delivery dealer did a great job. They also get paid by GM for the prep, in my case for installing the ordered Stage 2 aero package and they found a small paint flaw (I would have missed) and no doubt got paid to fix that! If Kerbeck does not have a name of a local Chevy Dealer who will accept Courtesy Delivery in your area call around and ONLY ask to talk to the financial manager, not a salesman or sales manager! I found a small dealer who does it all the time for the very large employer in that town!
Standard Trans
Only 23% of us buying a standard trans so finding exactly what you want, is not easy. The forum dealers order what folks buy. In our town they would NEVER order a standard trans for stock! It's been slowing happening. I recall my first Vette, an '88 I ordered a standard trans (as have been all my DD's since my first car.) The local dealer said, I'll have to charge you a $2000 non refundable fee as I will have a hard time selling the car if for whatever reason you don't take it! No problem for me. When I brought it to work one of my younger product managers who drove a Vette looked in the car and said joking, "To cheap to buy and automatic!" I just smiled and didn't bother to tell him that for an '88 the standard trans was from Doug Nash who built an old beefy 4 speed with and attached a two speed electrically operated overdrive in the tail shaft! It would be operated in 2nd. 3rd and 4th and the gear ratio's allowed a 7 speed if you engaged properly! That was my 2nd 7 speed! First was a Dodge Colt Turbo with a twin stick 4 speed and overdrive. felt like a truck driver!
