I should here from the service manager tomorrow. I will keep everyone up to date.

With regards to a fix, would it be better to fix the damage area or have the entire panel replaced?
So sorry about about your damage.here locally (100 mi from you) those panels are around 3 grand a side to replace( don’t ask how
I know!) thread here on mosefits wide body conversion has an excellent picture description of process. Difficult decision on a new car whether to do a local repair or the whole panel. I’d recommend reaching out to DUB. He’s a regular on the paint and body section.keep us posted on what happens. We are all interested and I am sure we want you to be happy and made whole. Too bad , this takes the luster off an otherwise happy time.

Unfortunately if the dealer did not note the damage on the transport paperwork before signing for the car the carrier cannot be held liable.

What does SMC stand for? Also if the repair is done, goes Chevrolet do it or would a shop that specializes in repair do it?

Have Chevrolet do it, that way no one can give you any bs about warranty repairs in the future.

It's the material the panels are made from: Sheet Molded Composites

sheet-molded composite, or SMC, which was composed of fiberglass, resin and a catalyst formed under high heat and pressure.

All Corvettes since 1973 have used SMC body panels, but the material composition has changed dramatically, featuring less traditional fiberglass and more lightweight plastic. The early SMC material created parts that were stronger and more rigid, but more brittle. As SMC technology and production experience evolved, Corvette engineers were able to alter the material composition and the body parts’ specifications to trim the Corvette’s curb weight. Mostly, that happened through making thinner body panels, because SMC was denser and stronger than conventional fiberglass.

Sheet Molding Composite (or compound, both are used) has been repaired with Bono type material designed for that use for years, just as if it were a steel part, it works fine.

The comment about having Chevy do it reminds me of the person that wanted to have his defect painted st Bowling Green. Those painting robots don’t moonlight at night for painting customer returned parts! They are programmed to paint parts positioned on a special cart. They could not paint a separate part if they wanted!

A good painter can adjust a subtle paint color difference by the way they set the gun, distance from the part, etc. They can decide how much they need to blend outside the repair area as well and much gets a clear coat. Those GM robots do fine painting parts positioned exactly an the special cart with rhe same batch of paint!

I meant the Chevrolet dealer (any of them), so as to not effect the warranty.

Update from the Courtesy Dealer this afternoon: “Good morning- most likely happened while being loaded onto or taken off the transporter- we missed it - next Monday would be good to have the car dropped off and we will get it into the shop to be repaired - thanks.”

That's great news!!!
I'm sure they will do a good job and make you as happy as you can be. I hope having to suffer through this does ruin the excitement of the new car try to put this behind you and just enjoy it.
BTW treat yourself to some real fun sign up for Ron Fellows and you will quickly forget all about this

Agree, this is an easy repair, and even paint matching is a non-issue in that location. You'll never notice it was ever damaged.

Two reasonable endings to two big issues on the forum today!

Great
As I initially said, it's in a very desirable spot if you had to have damage. They will repair it so you will never be able to notice it was damaged.

In regard to them taking responsibility; how could they not fix it considering the nature of the damage and your reporting it so soon after the C7 was picked up.
