I made two stops on the way home from the dealer last night, and ran two short errands this morning (1 cold start) on the same route as when the original problem appeared. That's 7 restarts with no issues.
If it's going to reappear, it will quickly, because I do drive this car almost every day. I commute to DC usually 4 days a week in it and use it for running short errands on weekends.
Funny you should mention that. I've said many times on this forum that I really like to purchase CPO cars because they have a maintenance history, which one can evaluate, as well as extra factory backing. If you find one that's been clean for 3-4K miles, that car is likely a good bet to be trouble-free for a long life. New cars obviously have no service history.
The only problem with that is that you don't really know how the car was driven before you took possession, especially a sports car, and I'm pathologically OCD about break-in and cold start procedure. I'll start with four factory miles on the clock, perform my rituals, and take my chances. I'm betting your experience was an infant mortality issue that is now fixed. With thousands of parts on a modern car there is a chance something will go wrong early on, and if your issue was a one-off problem where you missed the odds on one part you're in good shape.
Yes, that is the trade-off, but I've always had great luck w/ the dozen or so CPO vehicles I've purchased over the years. I think all the "glitches" I've had over the years have been early-on with new cars, which I agree with you was component infant mortality in all cases.
The '14 Z51 M7 convertible CPO car I purchased with 4K miles had only 3 GMVIS entries for service, 1) the in-service inspection; 2) 500-mile dry sump oil change, 3) and at 4K miles for a regular oil change. Other than oil changes, the only service visit I had on that car was for the passenger airbag sensor recall, which affected all 14-15 C7s.
I've had two complete engine failures on new cars, an 06 Z06 and an 02 BMW 735i, but both of those engines had known design defects, which caused a lot of failures.
Sounds like the issue was correctly diagnosed and repaired. A bad O2 sensor replaced and you’re back in service. Good to hear. Now enjoy the heck out of it.
