At either 25 or 26 over, you will no longer get an option from the courts for taking a defensive driving course to get the ticket dismissed in Texas.
Depends on your lawyer. I got busted for doing 90 in a 60 and my lawyer got me a fine plus 90 days probation. If I don't get another ticket in the next 90 days the ticket is dismissed. Ten days to go!
Worst thing you can do is go to court. You should go in before your court date and talk to the clerk or the DA, whoever's responsible. If they're not willing to cut you some slack a traffic lawyer can usually save you some money, although not all traffic lawyers are equal.
Having just dealt with a similar situation... On a bike. I don't speed in a car. Be very respectful to the officer. Most know it is more of a money grab than safety.
Wait a couple of weeks then go see the DA. Tell them you would like the ticket dropped to a non moving violation and you are willing to pay whatever to keep it off your record and away from you insurance company.
They are human, and they know as long as they get their dollars your insurance company never needs to know.
Personally, my fine went up 100.00 from the original cost. But it will never hit my drivers license. Well worth it and no need for a lawyer.
It also helps if you don't have any previous violations in the last 3-5 years.
I got my reckless in my LEXUS doing 84 in a 65 on route 66 in Va.....called my lawyer, $800 bucks later and "online" traffic school. Dropped to court costs and ZERO fine or points never event went to court...he went for me on my behalf.
Got a ticket in a 35 zone doing 54 in 200+ fine "enhanced speed zone" ...again in my LEXUS....Luke (Lawyer) charged me $500 for that one.
Never been to court once for ANY ticket ever. I just swipe the AMEX, collect my points and buy stuff off Amazon with the winnings and clean driving record.
If you can't afford a lawyer, don't drive like me...
Tighten up your driving. Slow down to 5-9 over as nearing over passes looking for cops.
Any car on the side of the road should be suspected as a cop.
Get a good radar detector.
Make habit to always scan the road way ahead.
No exception (legally); at that point, eleven over could land you in jail. How well it's enforced is a whole other subject.
I believe they will typically write you up for just under 80 (even when going over) in a 70mph zone unless you are going CRAZY fast or give them a reason to throw the book at you.
The secret is BE NICE to the officer.
I expect at any given time at least 70% of those driving I-95, I-64, I-81 in Va where limit is 70mph are driving over 80mph.

What happens if you get nailed doing 25 mph over the posted limit?
Well, I got caught in a "speed trap" doing 65 in a 45. Cost me $203 but the "ticket' was not reported to anyone, so I didn't get any points, etc. as it was a money making scheme for the town of Damascus, Arkansas(since then it has been shut down by the State as a speed trap),
The other side of the coin is if you get caught doing 20 over the limit in Christian County, Missouri, you pay a fine, get the points, and spend 48 hours in jail(no exceptions). I didn't get stopped, but a friend is a Judge in Christian County, Missouri, and he told me what happens for doing 20 over(and they have plenty of radar unit's on both US65 and US160 south of Springfield Missouri towards Branson, just waiting for you to drive 20 over). US65 is a four lane, so you don't need to floor it to pass a truck pulling a camper or a boat, but US160 is a two lane and hitting 80 in the 60 speed limit passing a slow vehicle will get you 48 hours behind bars.
Uniden R3 and try to stay under 100... Really I do 10 over and that's good for me, 85 every day on the turnpike to and from work, the on ramp to 90 mph is the most fun
I'm headed to Dalzell, SC to see my youngest 7/20 from Albany, NY I-81 to I-77. Any thoughts.
I have had a radar "incedent" in VA before, trooper took down the serial number and gave it back, 20 years ago
the trooper just confiscated it.
Any new hot spots and what are the undercover cars in VA and NC along I-77?

The last time I drove from Latham, NY to Staunton, VA, with another 6 Corvettes, none of us got a speeding ticket. We just kept it at 5 over the limit, keeping up with the flow of traffic. No drama on I-81. 507 miles to the motel where we were spending the night in Staunton. We could have driven at 15 over, but we would have just had more time(45 minutes) to kill at the motel before going out to eat dinner in Staunton. If we had got stopped for doing 15 over, I bet we wouldn't have had that additional 45 minutes to kill at the motel before going out to eat a very expensive(price of the speeding ticket) dinner.
I have never found it that difficult to stay less than 20 over. Maybe in 4 lane 30mph roads. We have some of those.
The speed limit in Austin (well, technically outside of it) is 85. I pussed out and kept it under 100 because it was too unnerving.
I could have gone 104 safely tho.
I dunno--live a little--I've heard [5th Amendment invoked] of a person in a Stingray that travels in the Texpress Lanes with 75 MPH speed limits at triple digits. Sort of a personal FU to the left lane "hogs" who are not even going 75 and yet won't change lanes, as if their car is on rails or something.
I got a speeding ticket in the mail from DC Metro photo speed enforcement. It shows a picture of my car on a 3 lane highway doing 65 in a 50. I never even seen a 50 MPH sign either, but then again I got off on the wrong exit and was slightly lost. Sad part it was the only car in the pic, the closest one was about 1/4 mile a head of me. I do speed and it is usually 10 mph or less, unless I am getting passed by everything else. Then I go as fast as the rest, unless they are doing jail time speeds.

I always have my Garmin turned on(even if I'm not using it for turn-by-turn directions to my destination). I am always checking the speed limit displayed on the Garmin, just in case I might have missed a speed limit sign.
