Man, I'd be sick if my convertible does that number. So, I need to carry several cotton towels just in case. That sucks, man. Sorry for your car's difficulties.
If you think about it, you probably need to carry the towels because what if it's NOT the passenger seat, and you're sitting IN/ON the driver's seat? When it decides to "unload?" On you. THAT'S the best reason for storing the towels at the ready! jmo

And, to OP, if everything you say in your "timeline" is true, including the part about just finding out on July 23 the part number for the clips, this is a dealer that didn't know what it was doing and not incidentally, lied to you about getting a full assembly so they could scavenge the clips which they'd told you they were waiting for.

It's a Chevy not an an expensive car. Hmm, that one doesn't make anyone feel better even if it was a $10K car which it isn't. I base that on the questions and answers in ADDITION to the timeline of events.

Do you have other Chev dealers in your area? Or a Cad dealer? I'd really like to know if you have choices.

I hear what you're saying. But we're talking about a carrying extra towels (make it extra clothes too...that was a good amount of fluid) because your new vehicle might just puke hydraulic fluid on you. This isn't my grandpa's old Massey Ferguson tractor. Which to me, is more than just a little ridiculous.

And like you, I would be just as pissed about this situation if it had been my daughter's Sonic that I brought in. $ is not the point here.

There are other Chevy dealers in the area. It would be a good bit out of my way, but I'll definitely be trying them, if needed, in the future.

By the way, forgot to post. Top works now, but the little plastic trim pieces on the interior driver side were not put back together properly, so they don't fit quite right.

The tonneau cover is now slightly misaligned, so the panel gap between it and the trunk varies significantly from passenger to driver side.

I picked up LOTS of minor little scratches all over the car. Looks like someone wiped dust off with a dirty shop towel.

And the king sized sheet set I keep in the trunk as a cheap car cover is missing.

On the bright side, I guess that means I'll get to spend a lot more time with the car out in the garage, getting it back into the condition it was in before I brought it in.

Here's a quick look at the difference in the tonnaeu-to-trunk lid gaps I mentioned...
