Dash trim issue

Going through the same thing with my 2014. 28000 miles 4 years old and the dash looks worse every day. GM has offered me some good will but it will still cost me about $1000 out of pocket. Guess I will have to do it as when I get rid of the car I will probably take a bigger beating if it is not fixed. Just hope they do a good job.

This is a well known problem and GM refuses to do a thing about rectifying it. Very common in C-6's with the leather dash as well - https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...d-problem.html

I would do the repair now because GM can pull their offer of goodwill help on the repair...I was told my offer was only good now as my car had low mileage on it so you might go ahead and bite the bullet on the repair now to get any GM help on the repair. On the other hand, you could not repair it and discount your car for the dash problem but I think when you sell it anyone looking at your car will want the dash repaired. Anyways, I think GM should correct this issue with the leather dash they are installing in the Corvettes since they know 3LT dash’s apparently have this problem and it usually shows up AFTER the basic warranty on the cars has expired.
Funny how the Chevrolet Customer Care lady never chimes in on this issue. They supposedly monitor the forum.
I have had many Corvettes and all have had some problems. I remember having to replace the valve springs in my 2002 Z06 as it was a real problem that costs lots of owners an engine and GM would not step up to it. This one though is the worst for me as it is in your face.

GM vs Toyota:
Today's mail brought a letter from Toyota saying that her dashboard may become cracked or sticky if exposed to high temps/humidity/sunlight. Obviously not a safety issue, just appearance. Hers is still fine and none of our friends with Toyotas have mentioned any problem.
But they are going to warranty the dash for 10 years from date of sale or November 2020, whichever is later. No mileage limit.

Go to forums on Subarbans,Tahoes , Sliverados, and all their siblings and the problems with the dashes cracking from 2007-2013. Thousands of them. When I had Suburban my dealer fixed it the first time not GM since GM wont do a stinkin thing with it. I just traded it and didnt fix it the second time. Customer service says get a a dealer diagnosis and set up case then you are told to bad not covered. Once you buy the car GM doesnt really care but other than that I like their products and every manufacture has one issue or another. and my 2015 3LT has the problem

Took my 2014 3LT Stingray to the dealer for a dash replacement estimate yesterday. Was told that $3,300 was parts and labor at dealer cost. When I asked about GM "good will" for this known issue they came back 20 minutes later and said that because I was a good customer that GM would eat $1,000 of this cost. $2,300 out of my pocket is more than I am comfortable with.
I still hope to see on here where someone has found an affordable repair!

From what I read about the dealer repairs for the dash issue and just my opinion, it appears that this issue has come up many times over the years at various dealerships. The dealer service departments and GM may have built in that $1,000 “make the customer feel good” into the actual costs and there is no real deal when the service department says “GM is going to eat $1,000 of the cost.” Could be GM is just trying to avoid a class action for a forced recall, when it’s known by Chevy before the car leaves the factory that there is an issue with the leather dash. Or maybe in reality, the issue is only with a small number of cars. Not sure, but it’s wrong all around for GM not to address the costs to the customer. One can only hope at some point the issue is addressed before the corvette leaves the factory.

2014. Same issue here. Even popped up on the side with the white stitching. Dreading the repair cost as well as the new rattles that are certain to appear after the repair.

Some might consider trading for a C8, if that's an option and GM isn't cooperating.

Mary Bara said, no more crappy cars, apparently that doesn’t mean interiors. GM is going back to their pre-bankruptcy days, where they cut costs on the interiors to save money. Just look at the new trucks, their stuck with the same outdated, cheap interiors as the previous generation. This isn’t just a Corvette issue, it’s the entire GM line-up. Review after review criticize GM for their cheap interiors, yet they are blind to the fact, just so they can save a few dollars.

My 2014 just started doing it the last 2 months, looks the same as OP's... I wonder if AIR 80 tint would help with any further damage...

Well, my 2014 is at the dealer for the entire dash replacement. It started with one piece and by the time I got ready to do it the whole thing needed to be done. After lots of back and forth it is going to cost me $1000 for the job. Really no choice as trading or selling the car not repaired would have cost more in the long run. I also could not stand looking at it anymore. On the other hand some spend way more than that for mods that they never get the money back on. I just hope it comes out OK.
Anyone with a 3LT better be watching their dash if the warranty is close to ending. If warranty is out like most when this happens find a dealer who will advocate for you.

I have 8 months left in my 3-year B2B and just noticed my 3LT dash starting lift like the OP. Its only the part closest to the window. The rest looks OK.

For the 3LT people with the dash problem-
If you need to get it replaced, how about using a normal 2LT dash? The labor cost would probably be the same but the part cost should be lower. More importantly, you won't have to worry about fixing it again some day. I could tolerate an appearance difference under those conditions.
Sorry to have to discus this...

My buddy's 2016 Z06 3LZ is doing it. I just dropped it at the dealer for him to be repaired 3k miles. Always garaged but spends maybe 4 or 4 days a week outside with sun maybe 30 to 40% of the day. Not tint..
mine 5800mi no sign of it. Same age car

I asked about going to the 2LT dash and GM refused to help. I would have had to pay for the whole thing which would cost me more. I will watch the new dash real close. If I even think that it is starting again the car is gone.

I am not belittling any of these issues. It obviously is unsatisfactory. I do wonder what environment these cars have endured. Are they "outside cars" that are not parked in garages? Are they in high or low humid conditions? That's no excuse, but is there some sort of environmental issue that is actually casing this?
