Why do you think that is the "right way"? And taking off 4 wheels so you can punch from the rear is going to take a whole lot longer than five minutes. Just sayin'.
Go out to your garage, take a credit card and slowly slip it into the groove around your center cap so that most of the card is under the edge, as you push the credit card down the cap will slowly
release and snap off. You can do all four in less than 2 minutes. Taking off the four wheels to remove caps is ridiculous! If you can do that in 5 minutes, you should be working for a racing team. Most of us would take an hour or more to do that for all four wheels. I guess you could say there is no right or wrong way, but one is defiantly more efficient!
A few months ago I bought new Jake Center caps and though how do I remove the caps without the added work of jacking up the car and removing the wheels.
I searched this forum and found the duct tape, the dental floss recommendations but they just did not work for me. Then I saw a post by one of the forum members about the credit card. I went out to the garage and in just seconds tried it and WOW they were off with out any damage and scratches to the existing caps. I can't remember the post but was I happy that he posted this solution.
I am always amazed at some of the comments on this forum. I guess the saying is correct, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink it... I see that a lot on this forum/
Just tried it. The credit card got the cap out enough to stick a very tiny flat head screwdriver in there that was strong enough to pop the cap right off. FAR easier than jacking the car up to remove all the wheels, dontcha think?

Oh, good grief. I had students spend 10 times as much effort trying to find a "quick and easy" way to do things and then screw them up in the process. Just take off the d**ned wheels, already.

You can't be serious. Few people have a lift.
Jack up car
Take off wheel
Push center cap off
put wheel back on
Torque bolts appropriately

Go wash up and change your clothes cause you're gonna be dirty
If you can do it in two jack ups, bully for you.
vs. 2 minutes per cap max. You want to add up energy and time expended?

I use a combination of the duct tape and old credit card-
Wipe off the center cap so the tape will stick.
Double over some duct tape to make a loop with sticky-out on both "sides".
Press the tape firmly onto the cap.
Pull out on the tape at a slight angle to slightly tilt the cap.
Slide the credit card under the edge of the cap that has been pulled/tilted.
Continue to work the card under the edge of the cap until you get enough to carefully pry the cap out.
Takes long to write it than to do it.
Don't drop the cap onto a cement floor!

If it is that easy with a credit card, then I agree it is much better than taking each individual wheel off and popping the caps off from behind. Good reminder of that method.
It's 1:15 AM. I get bored sleeping so I get up in the middle of the night. Anway....I went out in the garage with my trusty Visa card and some Gorilla tape. Bingo! All four caps were off in less than 5 minutes! I put them right back on withe ease.

I should of mentioned the key is to use a thin like credit card that is flexible. When you slide the credit card into the groove it should be able to bend freely so it slowly goes down the side of the center cap of the wheel freeing up the plastic cap clamps. As you slide it down the cap, work the entire card around and the cap will pop off with little ease. The more of the card you get into the groove the easier the removal. Hard credit cards won't work, I used an old Southwest Frequent flyer card.
