Then GM must have changed the diameter because that size (OD) is simple too small and falls out.

Can you measure the opening like I did and post it? That's pretty crazy that they would change it. Mine is a 2019, what year is yours?

So what is your problem? If you don’t want to participate and contribute something positive to the conversation than MOVE ON.

Look familiar?

wow!

I already participated, and gave a perfectly reasonable answer, which will likely last longer than you will own your car.

No calipers or sense of humor needed.

I don't know BTR. I have read most owner buying 3/8. Run down to you local Lowes and get 1 of each. They can't be too expensive, less than $1???

I've had a plug in mine for a couple years now and after reading one of the recent threads on this I checked mine.
Found the locking rod is now stuck inside the fender and doesn't pop out any more to lock the cover.
The locking mechanism still actuates making noise so leaving the plug in regardless

This post made me get up and do the fix for this, even though I am having no problems.

After the fix, The fuel door will stay shut if you push it closed. It clicks closed and stays closed. To open, all you have to do is push to open. Works great and its a sound fix for the fuel door problem. Happy I ran across this post. I am all set now.

The funny part in my 2017 has no lock. Cost saving from GM? Or did they leave it off mine?
What years have the lock?
Interesting.
Our 2017 has the lock and so do all other C7’s who owners I’ve talked with, but it only activates when the car doors are locked.
Try locking the car with the fob and then test the gas door without touching anything else.

Ive now seen two posts where people had blocked the lock with the scrivet and later discovered the lock had stopped trying, I leave mine active and just keep a plastic putty knife in the cubby to pop the door off if the lock jams.
We have about 20 C7’s in our club and none have had a problem with the door.

Either way, not a major factor in life.

For the guy that sez his 2017 does not have a fuel door lock? It does.

For the guys that cannot find the proper sized plastic plug? Do a build up of silicone caulk in the latching hole. It might take you a few sessions to build up, but that'll work as well.

If your doors are unlocked the gas door is unlocked and opens and closes freely. If you lock the doors the locking mechanism plunger engages in the gas door. The problem is it fails in the locked position and that sucks because there’s no release. The push pin installed in the hole stops the plunger from engaging in it and locking the door. Doesn’t harm anything. There’s other lengthy threads about this somewhere.
I am not sure this is correct. Just spent a few minutes looking at the mechanism and I think the only thing which holds the door closed till the lock pin is pushed into the latch is the spring on the hinge. The “cabinet latch” just pops the door up so you can get your fingers under it. Until I just looked at the door I kind of figured the hook at the top must catch on something but I find nothing for it to connect to. To see what I am talking about with the door open push the “cabinet latch” button down and it will stay. Then close the gas door. Then with something which will not mark the car you can lift the door open w/o any resistance. This leads me to believe that the spring on the hinge is what holds the door closed till it is locked. With all of the folks here who have disabled the lock this appears to be enough to keep the door closed even with air flowing over it.

Just checking in and realized I answered the question in another thread (there are more than one on this subject at this time), so I see how my answer may have made no sense.

My answer on the other thread was to wrap a too thin post on a scrivet with a properly sized head with electrical tape, which has lasted me for 4 1/2 Years and over 100,000 miles, which is likely to be more than most will see.

Wasn't meant as a slam ( and certainly not at anyone in particular) just an observation. I do put more miles on than most,
but thanks for calling me out as an asshat, even though my posting history doesn't support that.

Finally found the correct size plastic body fastener so now the gas door lock is blocked and the gas door can be opened or closed even when the car is locked.

The one thing I noticed is before installing the fastener when locking or unlocking the car I could hear a crisp CLICK of the lock extending/retracting. After installing the fastener I hear a slight motor whining sound as the lock is blocked from engaging the gas door. My guess is over time it may actually cause the locking mechanism to fail.

Post #47 seems to describe that happening, and I recall someone else posting the same thing.
