Possible causes

  • Missing or loose fuel cap
  • Incorrect fuel filler cap used
  • Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
  • Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
  • EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks
  • EVAP system hose leaking
  • Fuel tank leaking

There is a TSB out regarding leak at fuel sending unit. Any gas smell outside the car?

Yes you can drive. Driving and ignoring for a long time will saturate the fuel vap canister, but that takes some time.

The little flapper on the gas tank that you push down may be the culprit. If this is the leak and you can get it to seal, then engine start/run events will clear the CEL light. Or if you have an OBD2 reader, just clear the code to see if it stays gone.

There is a service bulletin of some sort out about fuel system leaks, Be sure to ask your dealer about that. That should be under warranty. Here is a link about it: https://www.corvetteblogger.com/2018...uel-tank-leak/ i've seen posts here about the fuel tank leak and there may be better info here about the issue.

Recommend getting the reader and learning how to use it for peace of mind, since the light alone could be anything from a bad air seal on the gas filler to serious engine damage.
Cheers!
Yep good to have a reader BUT today you can drive into AutoZone, Advanced Auto etc and they will do it free! A buddy drove up from Charleston and was concerned when his "check engine light" came on. So we did just that, they took their device that recorded the readings from the OBD, then went to the store and downloaded into their computer with the car model and year. It came up and said it was an oxygen sensor signal. It showed the part number and the store could have sold him one! I advised that he drive it home knowing that it would not cause a problem. He brought it to the dealer and it was a connection!

You probably won't see gas on the ground with a P0442. smelling gas probably means it is either the little spring cap you push in when you put a nozzle in the gas tank, or one of the small lines going from the fuel tanks to the EVAP system. My first suggestion is to take a lint-free cloth rag and clean the seal area at the tank filler. People do all sorts of stupid things with the gas pump like laying it on the ground to move cans for filling. One little grain of sand can keep that little flap from sealing.

If you go to a parts store ask them if it is a current or a history code. If a history, have them clear it and that should end the CEL. Then after 10 ignition cycles, you can have the car inspected (That's how the emissions inspectors know if you just cleared a Code.) If the code shows current , then it is probably wise to head to the dealer.

The more sophisticated Code readers will tell you when the status of a code has cleared after 10 ignition cycles. i don't know what the car parts store has. I use the DASHCOMMAND app on my iphone with a bluetooth OBD-2 reader I have and it shows I status and history of any engine codes.

Have no fear, drive until dealer checks. A common CEL for cars with gas caps! If left off or loose it will trip! C7 does not have a cap so leak is probably a lose hose fitting etc.

Check engine light came on. Popped a P0700 Code, then a P0711 code. Something to do with the transmission sensor?

Are you using a Range module? A faulty Range will throw those codes. If you bought it from Range they will warranty it immediately. I had one which did this.

FWIW, you can as others have suggested buy a code reader. That's fine, you'll get the code and have then go to a website to find out what the code means. Then you can call your dealer and set up an appointment. Yes good to know what the code is for sure.

However, instead of the above, you can drive the car to the dealership when the code pops. Since you bought the car there and it's under warranty, the Svc mgr will more than likely not turn you away. I have never heard of a selling dealership do this to any one of their customers since checking the code is so easy. He (or one of his employees) will read the code, and tell you whether it will clear on its own, clear it immediately and send you on your merry way, or whether there is a problem that will need a service of some sort..

Rather surprised your dealership told you next week. When popped a CEL my dealership got me in the next day. I suspect it was the receptionist that answers the phones and has a schedule of what's available...which is probably the reason for the long wait. Figure, if you spent upwards of $60K for a car and you have a potential damaging problem, if you show up unannounced, they can fit you in before someone else that is there for a oil change or a routine service.

No. My son in law is a mechanic. He ran the code again and it came up the same P0711. Says it is faulty wiring harness to transmission. it shifts just fine. Not problems with hesitation or any other noticeable malfunction, no odors. Cleared the code and will wait to see if it comes back on. Thanks for your input.

I have those 2 exact code when I bought the car back in Dec. 2017. Dealer just flushed the trans & updated the TCM.
