Either take it to a dealer or get an OBD-II code reader online for $15-$30, plug it into the receptacle on the lower LH side of the instrument panel (near the hood release) read the code and go to this website - http://enginetroublecode.com/
Recommend getting the reader and learning how to use it for peace of mind, since the light alone could be anything from a bad air seal on the gas filler to serious engine damage.
Cheers!
Agree on finding a code reader, which are incredibly cheap these days and sold at all auto parts stores. If it's on solid, you can usually drive to a service facility. If it's flashing, it's a good idea to shut down. You can then try a restart and see if it's still flashing, but that very often turns it into a solid CEL with the engine running normally.
I also agree it can be anything, and it's usually minor if the engine is running normally, but you have no idea without reading the code(s) associated with the CEL.
I requested an appointment to my dealer. The earlier is next week.
You could take it to your local parts store right now and most stores will have an OBD II (On Board Diagnostics) hand held reader on hand. The parts store offer this service free. Just call in advance to be sure. Shouldn't take more than a minute or 2 to do.

What year car?
I received a letter from GM regarding a possible gas tank leak that SOME 2014s developed (the letter even said dealers don't know about this). The letter was for reimbursement if you paid to have the leak fixed (it would throw code P0455 - major Evaporative Leak)

Why wait till next week when the parts store (Autozone, O'Reily, etc can tell you in minutes & it's free. That way you'll know what you'll dealing with before taking to the dealer.

Did you get gas a while before? I've had two different manufacturer vehicles come on with gas fill-ups. One an a new GM that went off a while after the next fill-up, while on a cross-country trip. I't's never come on again. The other was a build-up of crud on a Ram cap's rubberish gasket. All the best.
