Default Paint improvements

This is not a direct C8 post but was wondering those lucky to own a new vette guess late 18 on has it improved? in regards to orange peel?
I'm no paint expert but a few I was looking at , probably done in 1918 had bit of orange peel.

I relize they are mass produced and topic has been posted often.

Of the (7) new C7 2019s I viewed last week at a Chev. dealer near me; ALL (7) were totally orange peel free. The finish did a great job in mirroring clearly.

.A LOT different than the new 2018 C7s, I viewed at the same Chev. dealership in January and February of this year.

Well I just picked up a new 2019 Grand Sport last week at the NCM and I looked over the paint with a fine tooth comb. I cannot find any OP. Just amazing - Blade Siver BTW. I looked very close under good light conditions. I used my ScanGrip Sun Match detailing light that mimics the light of the sun. The paint looks awesome. No complaints. Thanks GM!

Only 2018's built from roughly mid-November 2017 through model year end (January 2018) were done in the new paint shop.

I had black 2017 Stingray, paint was ok, I noticed some orange peel on the fron left fender and some on the passenger door. I just upgraded to an 2019 arctic white GS and I can't find any paint imperfections on it so I would say at least in my case the paint job has improved a bit.

I've had (2) 2014 C7's, and now a 2019 and the paint is much better. Perfect? No, but FAR better.

Cleaned it today after a week of driving in the rain.

Mine is a late 2018 build that was painted in the new facility and I'm very impressed with the finish, very little orange peel and the fit and finish of the panels is fantastic.

I bought a 2019 GS last month and the paint is really great. NO sign of any orange peel.

Agree with above comments, bought my GS in July - no complaints about paint, orange peel or mismatch on panels. My wife has a 2017 MB and the paint is considerably better than on her car.

A few years ago, orange peel was not considered a flaw in new cars.
In fact my paint rep. told me that it was built in to the paint, as a little orange peel caused a slight sparkle effect and hid very small imperfections.

I received a brand new KW truck to repaint from the dealer when the new owner rejected it because of the very bad orange peel.
I stripped the paint with a razor blade and refinished it and returned it to the dealer. I didn't realize that I had parked it next to another truck that the same owner bought.
When the owner seen my paint job, he was thrilled!, he then looked at the other truck and said, repaint that one too!

My 2019 Z06 paint looks op free although being blade silver metallic it is not as obvious as it would be on darker colors.

I just traded my 2015 Z51 vert in Shark Gray Metallic for a 2019 GS vert in Shadow Gray Metallic. While I always thought the paint on Z51 was pretty good, the paint finish on the GS is much, much better. Fit and finish is awesome too.

I just got back from the Corvette Museum last week and I finally saw that color for the first time in person displayed on the boulevard. That color is amazing.

I guess I'm more critical of paint quality than others, because a local dealer had some 2019s in the showroom and each and everyone of them had some orange peel. It wasn't as bad as some of the early models that I have seen, but it wasn't to the level that I was hoping for. I feel that the silver 2019 they had didn't look much better than my 2015. And for the record, unless you wet sand and polish the clear coat, each and every one that rolls off the factory floor is going to have orange peel. It's just not possible to lay paint down without it and must be mechanically removed later through sanding/polishing.

I was optimistically reading all the above posts, however had my doubts, as I have never seen a factory paint job on a car costing less than a quarter million, without some degree orange peel.

I just got back from the Corvette museum last week and the cars there were off the charts in terms of paint quality. It is my understanding that the new paint facility does have some capabilites to perform wet sanding and it is some how implemented with robotics. My Blade Silver GS which I just picked up has zero orange peel. I looked it over thoroughly using a Scan Grip light source. I am very impressed with 2019 Corvette paint quality. I would go so far as to say that the paint coming out of the new Corvette factory is as good or better than most production cars coming from Japanese, Korean, and European manufacturers.

I'm wondering what GM did to make the C7 2019s I viewed, no orange peel paint finishes? Hopefully, the finishes are as durable to time and the elements with an absence of orange peel.

The paint on my July 2018 build (2019 model year) Blade Silver Stingray - kinda sucks. Orange peel is middle of the road (I'm not a hater of orange peel), but the 'mottling' of the silver is pretty bad, especially on the front and back bumper, and there is lots of dirt in the paint. Plus there is very heavy-handed touch ups in a bunch of areas. Bowling Green certainly can't be proud of their quality control in this area. I park my silver Vette next to my silver Volvo in my garage and the Volvo paint is much better in every way. My wife's Kia is much better also!

Lucky the car is so incredibly amazing everywhere else, so I just can't be upset...

Regards,
J

All in ALL, the paint on my 2017 GS Vert (old paint shop) is about on par with that on my 2018 Tacoma in that both have a little OP, however you have to be looking for it to see it. I guess I got one of the good ones.
