M7 to A8 regrets?

I had a 2016 Camaro 2SS (A8) and while it shifted faster than any other auto I have owned in the past I was bored after a month and longed to shift my own gears again. I traded it for a 2017 C7 Base Stingray M7 and liked it so much I just upgraded to a GS Vert M7. If you think you will miss that level of driving engagement you get from rowing your own gears then you should stick with the M7. Furthermore, IMO, the A8 transmission is really the weakest link in the C7. Don't get me wrong the A8 is ok, but the A10 is a lot better but unfortunately it won't fit in the C7, so only the the ZL1 and 2019 Camaro SS get it right now. If the A8 was a ZF DCT then at least we would be comparing a top notch DCT but we are not. The C7 is great but the the A8 is just ok...and therefore it becomes the weak link in the car. Couple that with torque converter shudder issues for the past 4 years it would be an easy decision for me if I was on the fence, Tremec M7. Good luck.

I don't think it's up to members on this forum to make a decision like this. I personally love my M7 and wouldn't trade it for an auto but everyone is different and so are our situations. I know if I was having to deal with heavy traffic on a daily basis I wouldn't want to deal with a manual. Then again I probably wouldn't own a Vette if I had to deal with bumper to bumper traffic. The M7 is so much fun to drive and I have owned two Audi's and two Cadillacs with paddle shifters and they are nowhere near the same as a manual.
There is no better choice between the two and all the replies will be opinions based on personal taste. I have read many reviews of guys going to the A8 and not missing the M7 but I have also read others saying they wanted to go back to a manual. There is no right or wrong answer and both have their merits. I know that 75-80% of C7's are A8's so there must be lots of happy A8 owners out there.

but do you need it to be 1/10th of a sec faster? Are you buying the car for 1/4 miles drag races? From experience, even though the A8 shifts faster than you can with a manual it is still boring.

I am only asking for other people to give me real world driving experiences on owning a M7 AND A8 C7 corvette
I only know what its like to own and drive a M7 c7 and its awesome! you see i am NOT a diehard manual transmission guy however i appreciate them both because some cars are better suited for one or the other.

OK here's the deal.
The reason i asked the question is because part of me wants the auto ( for a few reasons) but i kinda think i will regret the decision ....my last car was a 2013 BMW M3 it had the DCT and that trans awesome and is PERFECT for that particular car in my opinion.
That being said.... I enjoy the manual in my C7 and at this point it seems it is "the right" gearbox for this car. I had a 2015 dodge challenger scat pac 392 with the 6MT and it was horrible! i hated that car within one month of ownership ( for a bunch of reasons).
ALSO....i never found my M3 with the DCT to be boring ... ever! that car was a blast to drive!
Like you said if chevy had a ZF DCT ...that would be a killer.

`Once again you're wrong. I went from M7 to A8 and zero regrets and I've posted about it.

I’ve owned manuals and automatics. Most recently sold my M7 Stingray and bought a 2019 Z06 A8. Haven’t regretted the change. Yes, occasionally a manual is “fun” to play but I’ve enjoyed the paddle shifters too. Good luck with your decision...

I had a manual in my C6. I have the A8 in the 2019 C7 I just purchased and absolutely love it! Love the paddle shifters which I use most of the time but it is awesome just to through it in drive with bumper to bumper traffic.

I went from a M6 C6 to a A8 C7 GS and have absolutely no regrets. I stopped praying at the altar of the sacred manual transmission a long time ago so I can enjoy driving any type of transmission that I want to.

I posted a similar thread when I was shopping for my C7. I knew I wanted an M7 but most of the cars on dealer lots were A8s. I wanted to know if a good deal came up on an A8 should I go for it. Lots of good feedback and I decided for me that I would not be happy with the A8 even if I saved a chunk of change. So I went M7 only from then on in my search. No regrets.
But...…...if I was drag racer and concerned about my 1/4 mile times (which I am not) for sure I would go for the A8.
For me the M7 was the right choice. For you maybe not.

I bought my first paddle shift auto in my 17 GS. Before that, with the exception of any SUVs that I owned, all of my sports cars were manuals.
Taking a lot of variables into account - roads, traffic, speed of shifting, fun factor, impact on my knees and back, i can't see myself going back to a manual. Don't get me wrong, I still love manual sports cars and if I had more garage space at home, I would get another one, but at this point in my life, the A8 with paddles is fantastic. I can shift faster and be in control of the car better than with a manual. It took awhile to get used to the paddles and I'm still learning/optimizing the shifting, but I'm sold on paddles. Which doesn't take anything away from manual, i'm just not against paddles anymore

you will be amazed at how fast you can grab a gear with the paddles. My '17 is my first auto vette out of the 4 i've owned, and first auto sports car ever, and I was skeptical at first last year, but now that I'm used to it, holy crap shifting is lightning fast.
I see the A8 as a best of both worlds situation. I get stuck in bumper/bumber traffic daily during my commute and having an auto is much less frustrating (don't get me wrong, I can row the gears all day long) when it takes 45 minutes to go 15 miles.
And then, when not stuck in traffic, the paddles are fantastic (as I said earlier, no need to repeat it). It took me awhile to get used to them, as the shift points on the M7 and A8 are quite different, but now that I am, I can appreciate why Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo, McLaren, Alfa, Maserati, etc etc, have all gone paddles to a large majority - it surely isn't because it makes the car slower
All of that being said, to each their own, I couldn't care less what someone else drives, I'm just passing along personal experience for those that might not have the both sides of the discussion. I was a huge skeptic before getting the manual, and to be honest, the only reason i did was because of knee and neck pain that has now been resolved. I was contemplating going back to a manual and had the conversation with Mike at Criswell getting ready to put the order together, but this past week of driving the A8, i think I'm ok with staying with the auto for awhile.

I will only go M7 on my Vettes..made even better by installing the MGW short shifter...I just feel more connected to the car...if I wanted to play a video game (just pushing paddles) I would...
With that said, when the C8 comes out I and many others will be disappointed if there is no manual option which if rumors are correct will be the case...
