Default Yow

Well, so here is my pre Xmas story. I have my C7 parked, looking pretty, with my wife in the passenger seat, in a shopping center...... wife guarding the car, waiting for me to return from the store. All is good...peaceful, quiet and good. Then, as I approach the car...excuse me, my Corvette, the alarm goes off. Now, I wasn't touching my key fob....just walking towards the car. This now makes the second time this has happened. And the look of my wife in the car with the alarm going off is not a good thing. Believe me,

So why the heck did this happen? And why doesn't it do it every time? Did my C7 think I was a bad guy approaching the Vette? ,,,,protecting my wife....which I appreciate? Was it expecting a present for it that I didn't have. Any help would be appreciated. And Merry Christmas to all you great folks.

you may of had the advanced motion sensor on and did not know it. it does not sound if she is still but after she moved when she saw you it would go off. see if u have the right button next to trunk open a message on instrument should say motion sensor on or off

I’m guessing your wife didn’t have a fob with her, correct?

Having a fob inside the car doesn't matter.

If the car has a intrusion/inclination alarm, then if the car is locked (no matter how that locking occurs), the alarm is armed unless disabled by pressing the button to the right of the hatch/trunk release (this disables the alarm for the ignition cycle).

If there are two fobs present, and one fob exits, the car will auto lock if that option is enabled. If two fobs are present, and the car is locked either by pressing the fob or door lock button, then the car will lock.

In the future if the alarm goes off and a passenger has a fob in the car simply pressing the start button will stop the alarm (it will go to ACC mode).

Reading the scenario presented, my best guess is wife was locked in, but was looking at her phone, not really moving at all, but then looked around, shifted position, or raised her arms, which is enough movement to set the intrusion alarm off.

The manual says "It is recommended that the intrusion and inclination sensors be deactivated if pets are left in the vehicle or if the vehicle is being transported". It does not say anything about your BAE.

Here is how you get out of this one: "honey, I'm really sorry I didn't read the manual and understand that I need to turn the motion sensor off when I get out of the car and you're still in it. I read it, and if the car locks for any reason, like I have it set to do automatically when I get out and shut the door, the alarm arms - even if your fob is still in the car. BTW, the car is so smart that I get a triple beep if the car locks and your fob is still in the car. Anyway, I found out by reading the manual that all I have to do when I get out and you stay in is to push the motion sensor button on the left lower dash before I shut the door. I'll hear a beap and on the DIC it will say 'motions sensor off' and you can move around all you want and it won't do that again. My bad."

^^^^ Doesn't matter where her fob is - if the car locks for any reason (such as auto locking when you exit and shut your door), it arms the alarm unless you use the motion sensor button. The owners manual is your friend.

This is it. You probably have auto-locking on.

Autolock is NOT the problem! Not disabling the motion sensor when leaving the wife, SO, or pet in the car is the issue. IF the wife is riding in the car, she should have her FOB in her purse or pocket. Sitting there like a lamb staked out for a tiger hunt is silly.

Or simply push the button, conveniently located right next to the hatch release button.....

I read that the motion sensors are located in each side of the rear view mirror. Wondering if this sensor is a problem for people then maybe you could just tape up the sensors with a small piece of tape.
