Yow
So why the heck did this happen? And why doesn't it do it every time? Did my C7 think I was a bad guy approaching the Vette? ,,,,protecting my wife....which I appreciate? Was it expecting a present for it that I didn't have. Any help would be appreciated. And Merry Christmas to all you great folks.
If the car has a intrusion/inclination alarm, then if the car is locked (no matter how that locking occurs), the alarm is armed unless disabled by pressing the button to the right of the hatch/trunk release (this disables the alarm for the ignition cycle).
If there are two fobs present, and one fob exits, the car will auto lock if that option is enabled. If two fobs are present, and the car is locked either by pressing the fob or door lock button, then the car will lock.
In the future if the alarm goes off and a passenger has a fob in the car simply pressing the start button will stop the alarm (it will go to ACC mode).
Reading the scenario presented, my best guess is wife was locked in, but was looking at her phone, not really moving at all, but then looked around, shifted position, or raised her arms, which is enough movement to set the intrusion alarm off.

This is it. You probably have auto-locking on.

Autolock is NOT the problem! Not disabling the motion sensor when leaving the wife, SO, or pet in the car is the issue. IF the wife is riding in the car, she should have her FOB in her purse or pocket. Sitting there like a lamb staked out for a tiger hunt is silly.
