ECO Mode???

Yup, me either. My other is the 8th gear. I simply cannot drive "D" knowing the shift points are so conservative. I don't even consciously put it in Manual mode, I automatically do.

What we're seeing here are classic differences in human perception. Whereas many aren't bothered the least bit by start/stop and AFM systems, considering them seamless, others go bat-**** crazy over them. I don't find them bothersome in the least, and if it saves me having to pay a "gas guzzler's tax," I'm all for them.

M7 Eco-Mode... : But, to each his/her own.

I have no problem with my car going into v4 mode. I don’t notice it unless I have the dash display up to tell me. I’m not worried about saving gas but if I do I’ll take it.

Au contraire. Most of my driving is freeway, probably 80% -- mileage wise, not driving time. The added fuel mileage is great. If I punch it in ECO mode, the other four cylinders come back instantly, no noticeable lag. It would be nice to have the NPP exhaust open sound in ECO mode, but you can't have everything.

I drove across the country and back putting on 6500 miles. I averaged 30.1 MPH all in V8 mode so I see no need to use ECO or V4 mode.

My 2015 A8 engaged and disengaged AFM so smoothly that most of the time I didn't notice it. The transitions in my 2017 M7 are more noticeable since the drive train is more direct with no buffer like the A8s have with the TC and the TCM that controls the interaction. I found the transitions in the M7 a bit distracting at first but it didn't take long to get accustomed to them, and I keep it in Eco mode most of the time. I have no hesitance at all saving a few MPGs while enduring a mild bump every now and then. Unlike TXshaggy I haven't seen any engine failures reported here that were attributable to AFM and would like to see evidence of it if it exists.

Funny, couple of the same guys/gals pushing ECO mode were the same on another tread touting you cant have enough HP! You want all the HP but want to drive in ECO mode (to save a few dollars) LOL.. Many old folks here just want to argue...Sad.....

Use premium unleaded gasoline
with a posted octane rating of 91 or
higher. If the octane is less than 91,
you could damage the engine and
may void your vehicle warranty.
If heavy knocking is heard when
using gasoline rated at 91 octane or
higher, the engine needs service.
Heck, even my wife's 2000 Toyota GTS requires 93 octane. I use what the good book says in my cars. However, this old body does not do well if I try to run a full tank down to the red light of "get gas you idiot". I need my "breaks" a little more often than I did when I was 21.
