I leave my Range in all the time, but the other day while cruising at 55mph on a long straight road, I did see the display say I was in V4 mode, it was cycling back and forth.
Does that mean it was trying to cycle and the Range stopped it?
That doesn't sound right Vader. Mine never cycles, it just stay in V8 mode. I would call Range, you my need a repair.
Ha, I'm a retired nerd! But, I was using my OBD2 scanner, being a nerd and all, and forgot I laid my Range device down. When I backed out of the garage I didn't notice anything until I wanted to turn it on. Ouch! I them remembered I took it out and laid it down on the garage floor. I must have kicked under one of the tires. Oh well, with this new one I won't need a switch to turn it on and off. I can just leave it plugged in.
I glad you told the story Joe. You know I was going to ask.

Yes. I would look into that because if that is working properly you shouldn't see that you're in V4 mode

The materials used to make the OBD II socket contacts aren't exactly mil spec so it is possible that your Range module isn't making good contact and if it has been plugged in for a long period of time the contacts may have built up foreign material.
With the car off, try removing and inserting the Range a couple of times because this will help to clean the contacts.
With the Range plugged in and the car running, are the indicator lights in the Range module on?
You may have a defective Range module because the V4 indicator should't come on with a normally operating Range module.

Well it wouldnt matter if it were milspec because it can't get dirty contacts if I've only had the car 2 months and the range for only 1 of that. Only did the 500 mi oil change 2 weeks ago.

Is the range VIN specific or could I use the same one in my 17 GS and GMC sierra ? Second if range device is plugged into GS would it stop me from being able to go in manual mode and use my paddles every once in a while without having to unplug device?

It is not VIN specific. I've seen several posts where some are moving it between vehicles.
Yes, with the Range device plugged in, you can shift to manual mode and use the paddles.
