3. Follow all the appropriate airbag disconnect safety directions.
4. Get a 3' "Breaker" bar attached to the end of your ratchet
5. Apply slow even pressure and the locktite will release as designed.
Best of luck
Unfortunately, just because it worked for you doesn't necessarily mean it will work for others. Some come right out, others are near impossible.

Yeah, it isn't a matter of just breaking it loose, I was able to back the bolt out around 2 rotations before the head fully stripped out.....I was using an impact driver.

Great looking new wheel!

Best of luck getting this resolved. I had no clue removing the steering wheel would be this difficult.

I think for the hassle your having I would unfortunately take it to the dealership. Probably money well spent.

You would use an impact driver to break it loose and that's it.
Are we talking about the same thing ?

Ah you're talking about a manual impact driver. Honestly, I don't think that would've done a single thing in this situation. My bolt head didn't strip out from the bit caming out or anything like that. The little tines that the torx bit engages with slowly started becoming more and more wallowed out from all of the impacts from my pneumatic, and electric impact guns that they finally just gave out.

At this point it's personal. It's between me and this damned bolt. One way or another, I'm getting it out.

OEM torque spec on that bolt is only 22 ft/lbs. No issues on my 2014. Very odd that something has changed with later models. Even if it were red loctite it shouldn't be impossible to remove once released!

Torx bit bolts just plain suck. Wait till you have a seatbelt anchor bolt round out …

Had that one in/out a few times doing my BK harness bar. With a normal T50 torx I had no issues. OEM torque is 33 ft/lbs. I just did even 30 and called it a day. Or, are you talking about where the seat belt anchors to the side of the seat? For that I used a torx bit in a 1/4" ratchet. Was tight at first, but came out no problem. Torque spec on that is like 50 in/lbs so I just install gutentite with my torx driver (screwdriver handle, no ratchet).

My car is a 2014.Is it possible GM got a "bad batch" of thread locker on later cars?

Im commenting on the nature of torx head bolts. Obviously the majority of the time everything is fine, but when its not fine, its not just mildly inconvenient, its a real bastard. Seatbelt anchor bolts can be one of those situations..

I understand... my question is which bolt are you referring to as the "seat belt anchor" bolt? The one on the b--pillar or the one on the seat?

Whatever is the t50. Im also speaking in general terms. Pretty much all GM cars use similar seatbelt bolts. Not identical but similar.

SUCCESS!!!! My mapp gas idea didn't work out...I was too nervous about burning / melting something. Tried it for a bit but didn't work. I then drilled a hole straight through the bolt, using a left-twist drill bit. Once I drilled all the way through, I went back to using my small butane torch, this time heating the INSIDE of the bolt, through the hole I drilled. Tried that for a bit with no success...then tried it again for a LONG time....put in my extractor and.....OH MY GOD ITS TURNING.....actually came out pretty easy! It was 100% a heat issue. I effectively had to melt whatever that thread locker was.

No pictures of new wheel installed yet...have to swap out my dash for the OEM carbon fiber one...oh and wait for my new steering wheel bolt to arrive.....

I'm pretty casual when it comes to taking my cars apart, but I don't think I'd ever take fire or a hammer near a collapsible steering column surrounded by electronics....

That's the gadget I was talking about. Easy out! A BIG easy out! I have a good set of those things for PITA moments.
