For what its worth, I was worried about this when I did mine. I wound up removing the factory loctite that came on the new bolt. I then applied some regular old blue liquid loctite and was able to thread the bolt in by hand.
I bought an adjustable die, set it so it was a bit loose on the bolt, and it scraped all the loctite off. I'm sure you could achieve the same result with a wire wheel or even a razor or something, may just take a bit longer. For reference I believe this is the die I purchased
New wheel and carpet! I used a 24” breaker ratchet and a T50 impact socket to ensure it wouldn’t twist. It took a lot of force but it broke loose by hand and unthreaded completely! I had an electric impact standing by, just in case. Luckily I returned the impact back to Harbor Freight for a full refund as I didn’t need it!
Had two unrelated issues with GM "Loctite." I'm sure it's not that brand just a cheap copy from overseas!
Both issues on my 2017 Grand Sport. First was removing the side oil drain pan bolt. Having changed the oil in my 2014 C7 was prepared with my 1/2 inch drive ratchet and 6 sided quality socket. Turns out the GS has a deeper close oil cooler so no room to fit a socket with ratchet or breaker bar. Tried a 12 point box wrench. It was rounding the soft drain plug hex! Even had the right size flare nut wrench! It was NOT high quality and again was rounding the hex. Solution was to fit the 6 point socket over the hex and grasp the sides of the socket with a pipe wrench. Had to use a pipe on the wrench handle for more leverage BUT got it off! The locking "stuff" was brown and sticky! What's funny was I was prepared for the front plug to give me trouble so had my 6 point socket and breaker bar ready. It came off with almost no force- scary. Go Figure!
The second caused much more of a problem! Bought a cue ball size **** for the shifter as I used on my 2014 C7 M7. Fits my fat hand. Had little difficulty getting the OEM **** off the 2014. But the small screw holding the same **** on the 2017 GS was very difficult to remove. I even tried running the car until the trans got hot, which ran up to the shift handle. Some recommended to heat the Loctite type material. No help, the small Torx head screw recess was rounding. Had read about this "stuff" that increases the friction on a Phillips head screw etc. Bought it, called Screw Grab. Says it increases friction 10 fold. Though "yea really" but worth a try. Put some on and the screw and it started to turn. Thought that did it! BUT NOT, the screw head turned about 45 degrees and head came off! It sheared flush with the shifter handle! Never saw what that Loctite stuff looked like as I had to drill out the screw! Thought what the heck always wanted to try an MGW shifter! Bought and installed.
No room to fit a 6 point socket with wrench to get the side drain plug off in my 2017 Grand Sport. Open end, 12 point box and flare nut wrench were rounding the soft hex on the drain plug. Had to use a socket with a pipe wrench as shown. In fact had to put a pipe extension on the wrench handle to break the plug lose! Locking material was brown and sticky! Recommend a 6 sided box wrench!
Stuff worked great on my Grand Sport Shift **** and held with enough torque to shear the screw head!
Well, it's done. New bolt came, I ran it through a die to remove all of the factory blue thread sealant. Applied a drop or two of regular old blue locktite, and back together she went.
Look great btw i installed the flat bottom carbon wheel with alcantara in my 2014 and bolt came out pretty easy also have exact same mgw shifter and these two mods put a smile on my face every time i get behind wheel nice job
It was every bit as hard on my 2014 as it was on my 16’ and 19’ ….so there is that

If I meet the engineer that spec’s that thread locker I am shoving this up his @#&!1
Had a similar "thread locker or something" on the side pad drain plug on my new 2017 Grand Sport. Was doing the 1st 500 mile engine oil change and crawled under the car with what worked for the oil changes for 3 years on my 2014 C7 Z51. BUT turned out the liquid/liquid oil cooler heat exchanger was longer than the 2014 and could not get my 6 sided socket and wrench with long extension to fit under the cooler. No way a wrench with socket would fit, no room.
So tried an open end, 12 point box and even a proper size "flare nut" wrench. All rounding the hex on the soft plug!
Finally used the 6 point socket and turned with an old pipe wrench grabbing the socket on the sides! Note the old wrench had a bent handle having been used with a pipe "extender." Had to use a "pipe extender persuader" under the car to get it started. Turned out it had a brown material on the threads. Obviously that way probably from Tonawanda!
After the job was completed bought an unusual wrench, a 6 sided box. Not cheap!
