Hello,

I am a current owner of a C5 and C6. I am looking at getting a C7. I am interested in peoples opinions on
getting an extended warranty. It would be a low mile 2015 Z51. Has any one had a problem with small things that add up
over time. As I understand it the power train is extremely solid. Any information is appreciated. The warranty is fairly affordable compared to the cost of the car. It is around $3000.

Any time you buy an extended warranty it is purely gambling. The seller of the warranty has to pay commissions to someone, pays for administration of claims, pays for marketing, and all the other expenses involved in any commercial enterprise. What is left is used to pay the claims generated and hopefully at the end of the day a little profit is left over. The warranty seller has done the research and mathematically there is little doubt there will be a profit. Otherwise, they would soon be broke.

If one can afford to pay any unsuspected expense that might occur, you are far ahead to put the cost of the warranty into an account and use the money to pay future costs. For those folks where a major expense could be catastrophic, buy the insurance. If there is a vehicle that has better odds of winning the gamble, certainly a Corvette would be the one if it is cared for and treated with some respect.

^^^Agree with JALLEN4, bottom line I would not spend 3k on an extended warranty.

I'd just look for GM CPO cars. They come with extended warranty and seem to be competitively priced to non-CPO cars (excluding private party sales, that is.)

Great question..here is my take..$3000 is not a lot if you are keeping the car 3 years or more and plan to drive it and I mean put some miles on it. anything could go wrong..power seat motor, windows and mechanicals..

If you are only planning on keeping for a year or less than maybe better to put the 3 k in the bank or a cd and use it when you need it ——for example a major repair.

also ..if you can... try to negotiate the warranty terms ..maybe a higher deductible one may cost less..




I plan on keeping my 17 for at least 3 years so it was worth it to pony up the extra $2600 because I plan on driving the car every sunny or semi sunny day

I appreciate the input so far. I would be buyer private party given in AZ you do not have to pay sales tax on a private party purchase.
That being said, I am more interested in knowing if the C& is known for having problems regarding sensors, or any other little things
that really add up over time. I know the power-train is solid.

I bought my '14 in November 2018 and purchased an extended warranty from Dennis Fichtner when he had a special going on. I wanted the warranty for peace of mind and because it doesn't take much anymore to have the cost of repairs add up to what you spend on the warranty. Plus with all the high tech/electronic do-dads on the C7, I just did not want to take the chance on something going wrong and costing a fortune to fix. YMMV.

If you decide to purchase a warranty, I would highly recommend you check with Dennis Fichtner and see what kind of price he can give you on the warranty with the term/deductible you want.

I daily drive my vette and every vette I’ve owned starts nickel and diming at 50,000+ miles. If you plan on keeping and driving it, the extended warranty is deft worth it.

I'm in Canada purchased a used 2014 last fall 12000 miles, I was fortunate to get the screen replaced under 30 day warranty, I passed on the extended warranty, they then offered me the 2 year extension for the price of 1 year so you know they are told to push for them, it's a gamble

Are all Z51 vettes manual transmission? Cause if their not and you're looking to buy an 8 speed automatic YOU BETTER GET THE WARRANTY! The auto transmissions on cars from those first couple of years (I'm talking 8 speed not the 2014 6 speed) are notorious for being troublesome. I should know, I own a 2015 and my transmission has been taken out of the car for assorted repairs 3 different times! And I'm not some rare case, there are several threads on this forum about A8 problems.

Yup, That's what I did.
As far as justifying an extended warranty, I look at it like this. I drive my SUVs like a normal person, pretty smooth and easy. That's not true on the Vette where almost every time I take it out I'm pushing it in one way or another. While my 2014 has a track record Lexus would be proud of, I don't know if it will be the same in two or three years.

As stated above, you are just buyinng another insurance policy. I have never bought one, and would have never done better on any car over 35 yrs buying one. The rule on insurance is if you can afford to pay for the issue out of pocket you shouldnt buy the insurance. If it gives you peace of mind then go for it. There is a reason dealers push these policies. They make a lot of money for the dealers and the insurance underwriter. My advice...save the $3k

Yep just like a Casino. On average, they keep the majority of what you walk in with. Otherwise they wouldn't do it.

I bought my 2015 Z51 7m 3lt in Dec 2017 with 50k miles . It now has 69k miles on it and I havent had any problems with it so far. I still have a little time left on the powertrain warranty I did not buy an extended warranty. I do have the leather lifting of the leather on the dash.

What are you planning on annual miles driving the used C7??

^ If you're getting the A8, I'd probably get some sort of extended warranty (not at $3K tho). If you're getting the M7, I think you can get by without one.
