The cameras on my 2016 are below average at best especially when compared to my other cars. I wish GM would have put in better quality cameras. I wouldn't have minded paying the extra costs!
This is one of my gripes about my 19 GS. The backup camera resolution is terrible, compared to my other vehicles. My DD is a 19 Ram 1500 Laramie, and it's crystal clear. Every time I get in my GS and put it in reverse, I'm reminded of how badly GM missed on this one. For the price point, and the Vette being GM's halo car, I can't understand why they didn't spend an extra $100 to put a decent backup camera on the car. My 14 year old even mentions it often. Swing and a miss.
From many, many press releases detailing 2018 Corvette changes (including GMAuthority and CorvetteActionCenter, just to name a few): "Improved rear-view camera image features higher resolution and wider angle"
Google "2018 Corvette changes" to read them for yourself.
Not saying the 2018+ cams are better than any of the other brands mentioned, but there clearly was an 'upgraded' rear cam unit included in the 2018+ Corvettes that was supposedly better than the 2014-2017 models. Which is, exactly, what the OP of the thread asked.
so it sounds like all we have to do is source a *2018* replacement camera and install it? easy enough, i guess.. time to dig for part numbers/microfilm
Might not be that easy. GM may have changed how the screen interfaces with the camera, different connectors, etc. The warning lines (if you use them) might not be accurate. Hard to tell in advance.
IIRC, some people said they couldn't tell any difference between the 2017 vs 2018 camera. But don't trust my memory!
