I also use dryer sheets but have to put a post it on steering wheel to remind me i have them In the engine bay in addition i use sticky traps , cayenne pepper in bowls around the car and moth *****.. Probably overkill but better than a new wiring harness.
I have never had an issue but have caught a few in the traps over the years
Our problem was mostly chipmunks, with an occasional mouse. A combination of glue traps and mothballs (Tupperware containers with holes in lid, under front and rear axles, renewed every 3 months) has worked well for about five years.
Make sure the garage is sealed of any small holes. Never leave your garage door open for any longer than you need to. They will run while you’re not looking. Many of my neighbors leave their garage doors open all day. Not very smart.
My car had a hard time starting, ran rough, then had a check engine light, a message on the DIC saying "reduced engine power" and another that said "service traction control"; took it to my local mechanic who found that mice had got under the valve covers and set up house keeping using my wires as building material; since it was under the covers I would have never noticed. Checked my MB GLK that sat next to it and found an acorn shell on the engine cover. It is going into tomorrow for a check up (pull engine shrouding off). Set 12 traps, have installed a sonic repellent unit and have ordered rodent repellent spray from Amazon. The wiring harness was replaced and throttle body re-calibrated, along with replacing the battery which was needed anyway, and after dropping $650 it is back to running great. Just though I would share.
Maybe an old tale, but I’ve heard over and over that mice can’t stand neon lamps. I keep neon lamps on in my garage as well as my attic 24/7. Never ever had a rat or mice problem. Next door neighbor told me last year that mice ate the insulation on his 2014 Porsche Turbo main harness. Another neighbor said he had a rat problem in his attic.
Works KS for me.
Hmm, reminded of an old joke:
"When asked why a person was snapping his fingers, he said, "Keeps Elephants Away!"

Guarantee you mice will find their way in even with garage door down.
I once had a mouse getting into my Acura TL. I had a box of tissues in the car, it would chew up the tissues, remove from car and use them to build a nest on top of the air filter of my motorcycle. What alerted me was the small pieces of tissues on the floor of the car. I placed a mouse trap inside the car and underneath my bike and that little rodents life ended that night by the trap under the bike.
Rodents, are associated with a number of health risks. In fact, rats and mice are known to spread more than #35 diseases.
Take "Hantavirus", for example, people become infected with Hantavirus through several routes, but rodent infestation in and around the home remains the primary risk. The virus is mainly transmitted to people when fresh rodent urine, droppings, or nesting materials are stirred up, become airborne and are breathed in by people!
OP-Perhaps, you may want to be very careful handling the nesting material and/or check with a medical professional?
This has worked for me for many years, buy 2 or3 magnetic hide a key holders and drill many small holes in the lids then stuff them with cotton ***** and add some drops of spearment oil you will have to refresh’s the spearmint oil every couple of months and just stick them anywhere you Ned to
Same thing happened to me. Got in the car one day turned on the AC and I thought a cat had pissed in my AC ducts. God awful smell. Come to find out mice were eating through my cabin filter and pissing on it. That is what happens when your baby has to sleep outside for a couple of days.
I kept finding kind of large droppings this year. I set traps, Poison Pellets, Poison Traps.. just could not figure why I still see droppings. I have dryer sheets, and mint oil drips and cotton ***** with mint oil.. What the hell! I found my answer a week ago, I was in my garage thought I saw something go by.. Mouse? Raccoon? It turns out the droppings were from a bat, I saw him flying by out of the corner of my eye. They had gotten in thru a small gap between a shingle and the 2 roofs. The do no damage to anything in garage and everything fine. Blocking off the entrance and waited a few days to make sure they were gone, as I do not want to kill them.. they eat a lot of mosquitos in the summer here.
