Cabin filter and nest material.
Took my 2016 C7 out for a ride before rain all week. Has been in.my spare garage. Car had a funny smell. I looked at the cabin filter. Mice ate right through it and made a nest
That is exactly what they did to my ZO6!
I never saw any signs of mice-no droppings-anything!
FWIW I now have traps around the garage (still haven't caught any mice) and two dishes of mothballs under the car! Hopefully, the smell keeps them away! I also pop the hood-the idea being that mice like dark places to work in, and the open hood does away with the dark!
GOOD LUCK!
You better do something quick because i had a problem and once they move in it is a night mare. First leave hood open to cool motor before covering with cover! Second buy the bait from your local grange store and use the black traps with the greenbait inside. You can monitor there eating by seeing broken pieces of bate near the trap entry. Also always open the hood before starting to see if any other damage has been done and to replace the traps.
I added some house door foam weather stripping around the filter compartment opening for a better seal with the covering door. I also leave the hood up. Put an ultrasonic device with a light beside the car to try to keep the mice away.
Maybe an old tale, but I’ve heard over and over that mice can’t stand neon lamps. I keep neon lamps on in my garage as well as my attic 24/7. Never ever had a rat or mice problem. Next door neighbor told me last year that mice ate the insulation on his 2014 Porsche Turbo main harness. Another neighbor said he had a rat problem in his attic.
Sticky traps - then you can see what is eating your car!!
I put out some sticky traps also. All they did was catch a bunch of Gheckos! Gheckos are good little things as they eat all kinds of bugs! I took the sticky traps out real fast!
They actually don't eat the wiring as much as back in the day. Apparently the coating covering the wires in the past use to have soy bean in it and was the reason why they use to chew the wiring up all the time. Now they just chew it if its in the way of where they want to go or get to.
I have a car in long term storage far from home.
I go there about every month.
I had mice in the engine compartment and fender.
I needed a trap that could site for a month without leaving a stinking mess.
I used a 5 gallon pail, put about 2" of anti-freeze in it.
Put a rod thru the top edge center with a beer can centered on the rod.
Put a piece of wood for a ramp to the top of the pail.
Put peanut butter on the can.
The mice go up the ramp, jump to the can
the can rotates and the mice fall in the anti-freeze.
one month and five mice later I was done.
Found the trap on the web.
The mice were getting in the garage by chewing the rubber seal on the sides by the door.
I glued strips of metal (roof flashing) to the rubber, about 2" x 1" at each lower end of the door seal.
No mice for two years.
I put out some sticky traps also. All they did was catch a bunch of Gheckos! Gheckos are good little things as they eat all kinds of bugs! I took the sticky traps out real fast!
Were you able to save the Gecko's? GEICO is watching you.
There’s a really old trap that is basically a box made out of galvanized sheet metal. It has a tunnel that goes through the center and the rodent gets scooped and pushes into the box. No bait needed. Just wind it up now and then. I always keep one in my garage.
I keep the car in a storage unit for 5 winter months and mice are my only fear. I needed a solution that doesn't require periodic intervention. I read on this site that mice do not like the smell of peppermint.
I prepared 2 empty margarine containers. Drilled four 1/4 inch holes in the lids. Inserted egg-sized sponges inside, saturated them with peppermint oil and closed the lids. Placed them on the ground, one under the engine compartment fuse box and the other under the mufflers. No mice this past winter so will do same next year.
